• The National Food Security Policy 2030 serves as a comprehensive framework to ensure Malaysia’ s food security.
• Enactment of the National Food Security Act ensures a sustainable food supply for future generations.
• The policy is envisioned as a catalyst for inclusive national economic growth.
THE government officially launched the National Food Security Policy 2030( DKMN 2030), a strategic document that serves as the primary guide for transforming the agro-food sector to ensure national food security.
The launch ceremony was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
DKMN 2030 represented a continuation of transformation efforts in the agricultural sector, based on six key dimensions of food security: availability, accessibility, consumption, stability, sustainability, and agency.
It listed missions, strategies, and action plans aligned with Key Performance Indicators( KPIs) that measured performance across four key aspects: contribution to economic growth, the well-being of the populace, particularly target groups in the agriculture and agro-food sectors, ensuring food security
AGRO COMMITMENT: The National Food Security Policy 2030 paves the way for a sustainable, resilient agricultural landscape in Malaysia. the country, and supporting a high-tech, sustainable agricultural sector.
SUSTAINABILITY AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
This policy brought about a paradigm shift that extended beyond productivity, emphasising sustainability through smart agriculture and regenerative practices, while concurrently boosting farmers ' well-being through sector modernisation aimed at eradicating poverty.
As a dynamic economic driver, DKMN 2030 aims to significantly strengthen the agro-food value chain, thereby boosting the nation ' s GDP and ensuring consistent access to safe, high-quality, nutritious food.
Sustainability is further reinforced through efficient food waste management and the empowerment of food bank initiatives to build a more responsible and sustainable supply ecosystem.
The government is currently enacting the National Food Security Act, which provides a framework to safeguard national food security and ensure that Malaysia’ s food supply system remains sustainable for future generations.
Under the 13th Malaysia Plan( 13MP), the added value of the country’ s agricultural sector is targeted to reach 1.5 per cent by 2030 through the implementation of DKMN 2030. The success of this policy relies on a Whole-of- Government and Whole-of-Society( WOGOS) approach, involving cross-ministerial cooperation and strategic collaboration with the private sector.
This aspiration aims not only to ensure a sufficient supply of safe and nutritious food but also to catalyse more inclusive, sustainable national economic prosperity.
