THE Sabah Agro Expo 2024 ( SAEX ) returned this year with a resounding success , solidifying its status as a pivotal event in the agricultural calendar . Organised by ESM Exhibitor Relations Malaysia , SAEX 2024 brought together key players in the agriculture sector , from local smallholders to international industry leaders , under one roof at the Sabah International Convention Centre ( SICC ).
With a focus on innovation , technology , and sustainable practices , this year ’ s Expo not only showcased the latest advancements but also emphasised the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in driving the sector forward .
Attracting an estimated 35,000 visitors and featuring over 200 booths , the event showcased the state ’ s thriving agricultural industry , highlighting its potential as a significant player in the global market .
THE VISION FOR SABAH ’ S AGRICULTURE
Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities Datuk Chan Foong Hin praised the initiative as a vital platform for advancing Sabah ’ s agricultural prowess .
“ Sabah has always been at the forefront of agricultural innovation in Malaysia ,” said Chan during his opening speech .
“ Events like SAEX not only spotlight our achievements but also encourage the adoption of new technologies and practices that will ensure our continued growth in this sector .”
Chan also emphasised the importance of embracing modern agricultural methods and technologies to boost productivity and sustainability . He highlighted the government ’ s commitment to supporting initiatives that benefit smallholders and local communities , ensuring that the agricultural sector remains a cornerstone of Sabah ’ s economy .
“ The future of agriculture lies in our ability to innovate and adapt ,” he stated , encouraging participants to take full advantage of the knowledge and opportunities presented at the Expo .”
The success of SAEX 2024 was also a testament to the dedication of its organisers , ESM Exhibitor Relations Malaysia , led by Managing Director Datuk Dayang Hajah Khatijah DHB and Chief Executive Officer Arpandi Jasmin .

experience in organising business events , ESM has become a key player in promoting industry growth and facilitating cross-border collaborations , now reaching towards the BIMP-EAGA region ( BIMP-EAGA encompasses the entire sultanate of Brunei Darussalam , the provinces of Kalimantan , Sulawesi , Maluku , and Papua in Indonesia , the states of Sabah and Sarawak and the federal territory of Labuan in Malaysia , and Mindanao and the province of Palawan in the Philippines ).
“ Our mission has always been to create a platform where industry players can connect , share knowledge , and explore new opportunities . SAEX 2024 is not just about showcasing products ; it ’ s about fostering collaboration and innovation in agriculture ,” she said .

“ The economy is recovering , and we see how important it is for industry players to come together , share their experiences , and work towards common goals . Networking is key to unlocking new opportunities , and events like this provide the perfect environment for that .”
She also emphasised the need to modernise the agricultural sector in Sabah , urging farmers and industry players to embrace new technologies .
“ We must be open to change and innovation . The future of agriculture depends on our ability to adapt and adopt new methods . This is why we are here today – to showcase not just products but also the processes and technologies that will drive the industry forward .”
Arpandi echoed these sentiments , noting the Expo ’ s growth since its inception in 2022 . “ This year , we ’ ve seen a significant increase in participation , both in terms of exhibitors and visitors .
“ There ’ s always been a sense of pride that we ’ re the biggest agriculture state in the country . It is also the biggest palm oil and cocoa producer .
“ And we ’ re more than happy with the clear indication that the industry is ready to take on new challenges and explore new markets ,” he said .
Arpandi also expressed optimism about the future of SAEX , with plans to expand its reach to include more international exhibitors in the coming years .

As the Expo concluded , it was evident that SAEX 2024 had succeeded in its mission to bridge the gap between traditional agricultural practices and modern technology .
