AGRICULTURE in Sabah will take centre stage next week as farmers, businesses, researchers, government agencies and members of the public gather for the Sabah Agro Expo( SAEX) 2026 in Kota Kinabalu.
The three-day event, running from Aug 21-23 at the Sabah International Convention Centre( SICC), will bring together more than 200 exhibitors across areas including agricultural machinery, smart farming, aquaculture, livestock, horticulture, biotechnology, food processing and precision agriculture.
The expo is expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors, reflecting the broad range of groups involved in Sabah ' s agriculture and food industries, from farmers and agrientrepreneurs to investors, buyers, students and researchers.
TECHNOLOGY MEETS FARMING
Among the areas on display will be technologies and products designed to support modern agricultural prac- tices. Visitors will be able to explore developments in fertilisers, seeds, aquaculture, livestock production and sustainable farming solutions.
The programme will also include live demonstrations, product launches, business-matching sessions, and networking opportunities, giving participants the chance to explore agricultural applications while connecting with businesses and industry players.
The event ' s educational component will feature specialist sessions covering specific areas of agricultural production. These include The Goat Farming Course and The Jelajah Bioekonomi programme, alongside expert talks on durian, ginger cultivation and salted egg production.
KNOWLEDGE FOR GROWTH
Among the speakers are Lim Chin Khee, a durian specialist; Calvin Chin, who specialises in ginger cultivation; and Jessie Ambukon, an expert in salted egg production. Their sessions are intended to provide practical knowledge on farming techniques and potential business opportunities.
The focus on knowledge sharing reflects the expo ' s broader role in bringing together agricultural expertise and commercial interests. Farmers and aspiring agribusiness owners will have access to sessions covering different aspects of production, while businesses can showcase equipment, technologies and solutions to potential customers and partners.
The official opening ceremony will take place on Aug 22 at 11.0am and officiated by Sabah Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar. His participation places the event within the wider activities of the Sabah Government ' s agriculture, fisheries and food industries.
BUILDING INDUSTRY LINKS
For organiser ESM Exhibitor Relations Malaysia, the expo is intended to serve as a meeting point for different parts of the agricultural sector rather than simply an exhibition of products and equipment.
ESM Exhibitor Relations Malaysia Managing Director Datuk Dayang Khatijah Bachtiyal said: " SAEX 2026 is more than just an exhibition. It is a strategic platform that brings together industry leaders, government agencies, entrepreneurs and innovators to accelerate the growth of Sabah ' s agricultural sector."
She said the event would provide opportunities to experience new technologies, learn from industry specialists and identify business opportunities.
Beyond the exhibition floor, the combination of demonstrations, technical sessions and business matching is designed to connect practical agricultural knowledge with commercial activity. This gives visitors several ways to engage with the sector, whether through learning, product discovery or networking.
THREE DAYS IN KOTA KINABALU
SAEX 2026 will open from 10.0am- 9.0pm daily throughout the three-day event. Admission is free, allowing farmers, industry participants, students and members of the public to attend the exhibition and its accompanying programmes.
With its mix of agricultural technologies, specialist knowledge, demonstrations and industry networking, the expo will provide a broad view of the activities and opportunities shaping Sabah ' s agriculture sector.
As the State continues to bring together producers, entrepreneurs, researchers, government agencies, and businesses, SAEX 2026 will provide a platform for these groups to meet, exchange knowledge, and explore developments across agriculture and related food industries.- @ AGROBiz
