ON THE sidelines of the MPOF Egypt 2024 , Minister of Plantation and Commodities , Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani , presided over a luncheon and industry dialogue between Malaysia and Egypt . Twenty important participants from both nations attended this meeting to discuss areas of shared interest and potential future cooperation in the palm oil sector .

assured the players in the Egyptian sector that Malaysia aims to create a synergistic partnership that capitalises on the capabilities of both nations for mutual gain rather than to compete with the Egyptian industry .
“ We aim to establish a regional hub in Egypt that will serve not only the Egyptian market but also the broader region ,” he said .

Johari explained : “ We aim to make Malaysian palm oil the preferred choice for mass production and commercial use .
“ This vision includes leveraging Malaysia ’ s robust sustainability practices and high-quality standards to differentiate its palm oil products in the competitive market .”
Through this dialogue , which involved exchanging knowledge and pooling resources , both nations sought to stimulate innovation and foster economic development in the region .

FOLLOWING the successful conclusion of the MPOF Egypt 2024 , Minister of Plantation and Commodities , Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani , led a delegation to Istanbul , Türkiye .
The Trade and Networking Dinner was held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Istanbul on May 30 , 2024 , as part of the company ’ s continued strengthening of its global presence .
One of his critical engagements in Istanbul was a meeting with Dr Omer Bolat , the Minister of Trade of Türkiye .
Also organised by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council ( MPOC ), this event brought together key industry leaders from Türkiye ’ s oils , fats , and downstream sectors . The dinner aimed to reinforce Malaysia ’ s position in the Turkish edible oil market and explore new avenues for growth .
In his opening remarks , Johari stressed Türkiye ’ s critical role in expanding Malaysian palm oil markets into Europe , the Middle East , and the Caucasus regions .
He pointed out that Türkiye ’ s significant demand for palm oil and advantageous geographic position makes it a vital market for Malaysia .
The Minister also explained the growth potential in sectors utilising high-value-added derivatives . By advocating for sustainable palm oil and leveraging Türkiye ’ s strategic location , Malaysia seeks to boost its market presence and stimulate economic growth .

He noted that Türkiye imported 1.11 million tonnes of Malaysian palm oil and its products in 2023 , valued at US $ 1.01 billion- making it the fifth largest buyer globally and the largest in the Middle Eastern region .
According to him , promoting sustainable palm oil in global markets would be a good step toward maximising the potential for growth in sectors using high-value-added derivatives .
Reflecting MPOC ’ s view , CEO Belvinder Kaur Sron remarked : “ MPOC recognises the significant growth potential in Türkiye and has consistently prioritised promotional efforts in the region .
“ Over the years , we have expanded beyond traditional applications to actively market derivatives and valueadded products derived from Malaysian palm oil .
“ This strategic initiative has diversified Malaysia ’ s offerings and strengthened its market share , where Malaysian palm oil commands over 85 per cent in Türkiye .”
The Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil ( MSPO ) certification , which has been required since Jan 1 2020 , highlighted Malaysia ’ s dedication to sustainability . The Minister also urged Turkish partners to help the MSPO project improve the industry ’ s profile and demand for certified goods .

Union Deforestation Regulation ( EUDR ), emphasising Malaysia ’ s efforts to ensure Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil ( MSPO ) compliance and sustainability .
She outlined initiatives to reduce refined palm oil ’ s 3-Monochloropropane Diol ( 3-MCPDE ) and Glycidyl Esters ( GE ) levels through advanced refining processes and significant governmentfunded research .
These initiatives show Malaysia ’ s dedication to creating sustainable , premium palm oil that meets international criteria .
