MAHA 2024 saw the signing of 139 Memoranda of Understanding ( MoU ) and Memoranda of Agreement ( MoA ) valued at RM7.2 billion

THE Malaysia Agriculture , Horticulture , and Agrotourism Exhibition ( MAHA ) 2024 concluded on a high note , attracting a record 5.51 million visitors and achieving direct sales of RM48 million .
Held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang ( MAEPS ), the 12-day event also marked its centennial year with new initiatives aimed at boosting Malaysian agriculture on the global stage .
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu highlighted the event ’ s success , noting that MAHA 2024 saw the signing of 139 Memoranda of Understanding ( MoU ) and Memoranda of Agreement ( MoA ) valued at RM7.2 billion .
In addition , Agrobank facilitated RM1.38 billion in potential financing and business matching , further amplifying opportunities for local farmers and agropreneurs .
“ These numbers are not merely statistics ; they reflect that MAHA continues to be a premier national event ,” Mohamad stated , emphasising the exhibition ’ s role in driving agricultural innovation and economic growth .
PIONEERING AGRICULTURE ’ S FUTURE
The newly introduced MAHA Go Global initiative was a key feature this year . It was designed to promote Malaysian agricultural products internationally .

THE intellectual property protection ( MyIPO ) for Malaysia ’ s Musang King durian has been extended for another 10 years , with the new certificate set to last until March 12 , 2034 .
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu affirmed that this renewal solidifies Musang King as a uniquely Malaysian product .
He stated : “ We ( Malaysia ) have registered the Musang King durian as a unique brand through MyIPO .

hosted three significant conferences : the 2nd Annual Food Security Asia Congress , the Trade Export Conference , and the Madani Agropreneur Gathering .
These events brought together experts from countries like South Korea , the United Arab Emirates ( UAE ), Indonesia , Australia , the United Kingdom , the United States , China , New Zealand , and Italy to discuss global food security and agricultural advancements .
With over 2,000 entrepreneurs , more than 9,500 trade visitors , and 150 international exhibitors , MAHA 2024 served as a hub for agricultural exchange and collaboration .
The event also saw increased sales of seedlings , saplings , and livestock , which Mohamad described as a positive sign of rising public interest in agriculture and awareness of food security issues .

Malaysia also began exporting fresh durian to China in August 2024 , following the signing of the Phytosanitary Requirements Protocol with China ’ s General Administration of Customs , with prices reaching up to RM350 per fruit , and the demand for the fruit continues to grow . anniversary , Mohamad urged young Malaysians to reconsider agriculture as a career , noting how modern technology has transformed the sector .
During the closing ceremony , he said : “ To the youth , I am sure that your visit to MAHA has changed your perception of this field .
“ Agriculture now offers new opportunities beyond the traditional “ 3D ” stereotype of dirty , dangerous , and difficult work .”
With pavilions from every Malaysian State and diverse exhibits , MAHA 2024 showcased the nation ’ s agricultural heritage while setting the stage for future advancements .
Mohamad expressed confidence that MAHA would continue as a vital platform for collaboration and innovation , stating : “ MAHA will be the platform to explore the latest technology , expand investment , and foster a collaborative network for Malaysia ’ s agricultural future .”

Driving change
THE Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( KPKM ) will consolidate seven of its enforcement agencies to strengthen regulatory efforts in the agrofood sector .
The agencies involved include :
• Kawalselia Padi dan Beras ( KPB ).
• The Department of Quarantine and Inspection Services Malaysia ( MAQIS ).
• The Department of Agriculture ( DOA ).
• The Department of Veterinary Services ( DVS ).
• The Department of Fisheries ( DOF ).
• The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority ( FAMA ).
• The Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority ( LKIM ). According to Agriculture and
Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu , a proposal for this merger will be submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Nov 1 .
“ Any political agenda does not drive the reform efforts undertaken by the ministry . Instead , they focus on the betterment and future of the industry ,” Mohamad said during the ministry ’ s monthly assembly .
The merger will impact 2,030 enforcement officers and 14 relevant Acts to ensure better oversight and tackle issues like leakage and smuggling .
Mohamad also announced upcoming administrative reforms at the Farmers ’ Organisation Authority ( LPP ) and the National Farmers ’ Organisation ( NAFAS ), stating that : “ I am pleased to announce that through these initiatives , KPKM is the first ministry to respond to the Prime Minister ’ s call to implement public service reform through the consolidation of enforcement agencies .”
