Making a difference

Eco-friendly goals take root with Plantzania

IN an effort to combat climate change and promote sustainability , Plantzania , an edu-eco science hub under Revongen Corporation Sdn Bhd ( Revongen ), organised a tree-planting event for Petronas Dagangan Berhad ’ s ( PDB ) Digital Division that symbolised the shared mission of creating a greener future .

ROOTING SUSTAINABILITY
Speaking at the event , PDB Chief Technology Officer Sazlina Ahamad highlighted the company ’ s dedication to sustainable initiatives .
“ We are not just planting trees ; we are investing in the future ,” said Sazlina .
“ Every tree planted is a step closer to achieving our net-zero carbon aspirations .
“ We believe in a collective effort to ensure a healthier future , and this tree-planting session is an excellent example of how small actions can make a significant difference .”
Sazlina also elaborated on how initiatives like these align with PDB ’ s broader goals under the Petronas Malaysia Petroleum
Management ( MFP ) Zero agenda- a long-term initiative to reduce the company ’ s carbon footprint and foster environmental responsibility .
Among the notable speakers at the event was Plantzania Project Manager Tan Hong Boon , who shared valuable insights into the unique properties of the paulownia tree .
He explained : “ The Paulownia tree is not only fast-growing , but it ’ s also highly effective in absorbing carbon emissions .
“ This tree can also be used for multiple sustainable products , and it plays a critical role in combating climate change .
“ Its high porosity makes it ideal for creating sustainable products such as our activated carbon bags .”
The bags were distributed to attendees to be used in their homes , cars , and even refrigerators .
GREEN GROWTH GOALS
Moreover , Plantzania Project Executive Mohamad Rafiq Aziz shared that within four years , these trees grow remarkably , showcasing their efficiency and potential and drawing attention to the simplicity of their sustainable solutions .

Head of Governance , Assurance & Planning ( Digital Division ) Asrul Nahar Ab Razak emphasised the digital component of sustainability .
“ Our efforts extend beyond physical tree planting ; we are integrating technology to monitor and optimise our sustainability initiatives .
“ Data and innovation guide every
step we take ,” he said , reinforcing the forward-thinking approach of PDB .
The event was not only about planting trees but also about fostering awareness and collaboration . Participants were encouraged to reflect on how individual efforts contribute to broader environmental goals .
“ Small efforts like these serve a much bigger purpose . Together , we can make a significant impact ,” Sazlina added , motivating attendees to take ownership of their role in preserving the planet .
The collaborative effort between PDB and Plantzania underlined the significance of partnerships in addressing global environmental challenges .
The Paulownia tree , often referred to as the “ Empress of the Forest ”, symbolised hope and resilience- necessary to combat the pressing issue of climate change .
By the event ’ s end , 90 saplings stood as living testaments to a commitment shared by every participant .
