Launching the next chapter

IGEM 2025 aims to host 500 booths, attract 50,000 visitors from 50 countries and deepen its impact on Malaysia’ s green economy. KLSS will gather ASEAN and Asia-Pacific leaders to craft the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Climate Resilience. Malaysia is aligning green innovation, investment and crosssector collaboration to meet its net-zero goal by 2050.
INVESTMENT AND INNOVATION
Malaysia’ s green economy continues to strengthen, underpinned by growing investor confidence. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority( MIDA), in collaboration with the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation( MGTC), has played a crucial role in attracting high-value, sustainable investments.

INTRODUCING KLSS
Coinciding with IGEM, the Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit( KLSS) will be held from Oct 14- 16, 2025. As part of Malaysia’ s ASEAN Chairmanship, KLSS aims to bring together leaders across ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region to exchange strategies and actionable ideas on climate resilience and sustainability.
KLSS will feature keynote speeches, podcasts, roundtables, and panel sessions, culminating in the drafting of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Climate Resilience- a significant milestone that aims to position Malaysia as a regional platform for climate leadership in the years ahead.
“ Our environmental challenges are deeply interconnected. Through KLSS, we aim to create stronger cross-border collaboration for a sustainable future.
“ We hope KLSS will become a lasting platform where visionary ideas are transformed into concrete climate action for the region,” Nik Nazmi added.

Malaysia reaffirmed its leadership in climate action with the soft launch of the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia( IGEM) 2025, and the inaugural Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit( KLSS).

Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi reflected on IGEM’ s journey over the past 15 years. Since 2010, IGEM has welcomed over 670,000 visitors from 126 countries and generated over RM63 billion in business leads.
Last year, IGEM 2024 alone exceeded expectations by achieving RM10.182 billion in business leads, attracting 500 exhibitors, and welcoming participants from 68 countries.
Recognised by the Malaysian Book of Records as the“ Longest-Running Green Technology Exhibition”, IGEM has become a cornerstone of Malaysia’ s green economy.
“ IGEM is not merely an exhibition. It is a catalyst that drives innovation, partnerships, and tangible solutions for a greener future,” said Nik Nazmi.
“ Together, we achieved these outstanding results, a testament
to the strong and unwavering dedication of our partners, exhibitors, and participants.”
Strategic partners and sponsors, including Petronas, OCBC, TNB, and UOB, among others, played a vital role in IGEM’ s success, helping elevate the exhibition to new heights.
HIGHER TARGETS
Looking ahead, IGEM 2025 will be held from Oct 15-17, 2025, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. With the theme‘ Race Towards Net Zero: Inclusivity and Sustainability,’ this year’ s event aims to attract 50,000 visitors, host 500 exhibition booths, involve participants from 50 countries, and generate RM5.5 billion in business leads.
“ This year, we set forth ambitious targets to strengthen IG- EM’ s impact. It’ s not just about growing bigger; it’ s about going deeper and creating meaningful climate action.”
Building on previous success, IGEM 2025 will also focus on five key sub-themes: Empowering Cities, Electrifying Mobility, Decarbonising Energy, Accelerating Circularity, and Protecting Biodiversity. Each area reflects Malaysia’ s strategy to drive a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy.

At IGEM 2024, MIDA successfully secured RM6.3 billion in potential investment leads- the highest achievement in IGEM’ s history. Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim, CEO of MIDA, noted that the steady growth in investment leads from RM3.08 billion in 2020 to RM6.3 billion in 2024, reflecting rising global confidence in Malaysia’ s green economy.
Visitors to IGEM 2025 can also look forward to key initiatives, such as the third Malaysia Carbon Market Forum, organised by Bursa Malaysia, which focuses on empowering regional climate actions through the ASEAN Common Carbon Framework.
Highlighting the importance of innovation, Nik Nazmi said:“ We know that we need faster technology to reach our Net Zero goals. If you look at Net Zero 2050, it’ s not easy, especially for Malaysia, which is a developing country. But we also need to recognise that technology is changing rapidly.”
He added that platforms like IGEM played a critical role in connecting government, businesses,
PATH TO NET ZERO
Beyond the upcoming events, Malaysia’ s broader sustainability ambitions are anchored in the National Climate Change Policy 2.0( DPIN 2.0), introduced in September 2024.
The policy sets a clear goal for Malaysia to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, integrating climate action into all sectors while promoting green innovation and job creation.
However, Nik Nazmi stressed that policies alone were insufficient.
“ Real progress depends on continuous monitoring, adaptation, and, most importantly, collaboration. It is the shared responsibility of the government, businesses, industries, and individuals to unite with a common purpose in transforming policies into lasting change.
“ As we embark on this next chapter, let us continue to push boundaries, forge new partnerships, and advance bold solutions to create a sustainable, prosperous, and resilient future for all,” he concluded.
With IGEM 2025 and KLSS on the horizon, Malaysia stands ready to lead by example, championing a future defined by inclusivity, innovation, and net-zero ambition.- @ green
