Siti Safinah is new EC boss
THE Energy Commission recently announced the appointment of Siti Safinah Salleh as its new CEO , replacing Abdul Razib Dawood whose tenure ended on Jan 31 .
In a statement , the commission said the appointment , made by Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Dato ’ Sri Fadillah Yusof , had been approved by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim .
“ This was confirmed through an official notification issued by the energy transition and water transformation ministry today ,” it said .

technology ( software systems ) from Multimedia University , a Master ’ s in business administration ( strategic management ) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia , and a Master ’ s in public administration from Harvard University .
Since February 2021 , she served as CEO of MyPOWER Corporation , a specialpurpose agency under the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry , to coordinate the implementation of power supply industry reform initiatives in Malaysia .
The commission said Siti Safinah had also served in the governance , risk and compliance division of the strategic investment fund Khazanah Nasional and was a board member of VCAP Asset Managers .
“ Earlier in her career , she worked at Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and Telekom Malaysia
Group ,” it added .
Meanwhile , The ASEAN Centre for Energy ( ACE ) announced Razib as its Executive Director , effective Feb 1 . With over 30 years of experience in the energy sector , his leadership will play a pivotal role in shaping ASEAN ’ s sustainable energy future .
In his new role , Razib aims to advance ASEAN ’ s commitment to sustainable energy by strengthening regional cooperation , fostering innovation , and supporting capacity-building initiatives .
He emphasised the importance of transitioning to clean energy while ensuring energy security for all ASEAN Member States .
Backing for hybrid solar project
UEM Lestra Bhd has secured corporate commitments to purchase green energy from its one-gigawatt hybrid solar power plant in Segamat , Johor . Hong Kong-based ESR Group is among the companies that have agreed to become off-takers of Lestra Hexa JV Bhd , a 51 per cent joint venture between UEM Lestra and I Squared Capital ’ s Hexa Renewables .
The first phase of the National Energy Transition Roadmap ( NETR ) project will see an RM2.5 billion investment to develop 750 megawatts of solar capacity . Supported by a battery energy storage system , the plant is expected to generate over 1,000 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy annually under the government ’ s
Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme ( CRESS ).
The primary off-takers will acquire green energy from the initial phase of the UEM Lestra-NETR hybrid solar power project , which will be established on a 1,700-acre site . The involved parties intend to finalise bilateral electricity supply agreements in the forthcoming months , and commercial operations are projected to commence by the end of 2027 .

Harman stated that ESR Group ’ s involvement would strengthen the feasibility of this national initiative , while collaboration with the Johor government would be key to its success . He highlighted the project ’ s potential to attract foreign direct investment , create skilled jobs , and drive economic growth , furthering Malaysia ’ s renewable energy ambitions .
As the first project under CRESS , UEM Lestra ’ s initiative aims to provide corporations with more green energy options while supporting their environmental , social , and governance commitments .

MALAYSIA and Turkiye have taken a significant step towards enhancing energy security and sustainability through potential collaboration in the energy sector .
This initiative aims to stimulate economic growth by attracting green investments , as stated by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation .
An exchange of letters of intent took place recently , coinciding with the official visit of Turkiye ’ s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Malaysia .
The partnership will focus on key areas such as electricity market operations , grid system development , expansion of renewable energy , exploration of nuclear energy potential , and investment mechanisms within the energy sector .
The ministry emphasised that this collaboration aligns with Malaysia ’ s commitment to a low-carbon and sustainable future , as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap ( NETR ).
By leveraging Turkiye ’ s expertise , Malaysia aims to accelerate its energy transition agenda . The collaboration will be facilitated through seminars , forums , technical discussions , working visits , and joint implementation of electricity-related projects .
