COVER STORY
11 premises and households . Under this programme , Malaysians who purchased five-star energy-efficient refrigerators and air conditioners were entitled to rebate vouchers on a first-come , firstserved basis .
The rebate vouchers were also offered to private entities if they replaced their inefficient electrical chillers with new efficient ones .
SAVE 2.0 began last year with an RM30 million allocation for the programme under the 2021 Budget . SEDA collaborated with major e-commerce platforms for the scheme during the movement control orders . The SAVE 2.0 programme is estimated to have saved RM21.8 million on electricity bills by December last year , equivalent to 38.3 kilotonnes of CO2 reduction every year .
In 2022 , SAVE 3.0 was launched with more appliances added to the programme .
The Road Ahead
On Dec 30 , SEDA finalised the Malaysia Renewable Energy Roadmap 2035 ( MyRER ), which would serve as a strategic framework for the country to host a low-carbon power sector .
The roadmap will continue to chart the energy transition within the electricity sector and contribute to meeting the Nationally Determined Contribution ( NDC ), a pledge made by the Malaysian government @ COP21 in 2015 .
The MyRER develops strategies to help the government meet its target of having 31 per cent of RE share in the national installed capacity mix by 2025 and 40 per cent by 2035 .
As the world accelerates towards a cleaner energy mix , SEDA has an ever-increasing urgency to support the government ’ s carbon neutrality aspiration by 2050 .
The report by the IEA seals that mandate by declaring that the future of energy will be contributed by 44 per cent from energy efficiency and 36 per cent from renewable energy . Clearly , the work for SEDA has been carved out as it maintains being an essential agent of change . — @ Green
