FUTURE LOGISTICS VISION: Loo Yong Hui discusses sustainability and the country ' s future logistics transformation strategies.
Where logistics meet sustainability
Swift Haulage Berhad takes the lead in repositioning logistics as an ESG-driven function, evolving from a service provider into a sustainability partner helping clients manage Scope 3 emissions.
The company is advancing green logistics through electric vehicles, solarpowered infrastructure, and green-certified warehouses.
Collaboration with platforms such as the MAPAN ESG Industry & Academic Summit 2026 is driving momentum towards a more sustainable logistics ecosystem.
THE global shift towards sustainability is actively reshaping industries and influencing how businesses operate at every level.
Logistics, which was once viewed primarily as a function of efficiency and cost, now finds itself at the centre of this transformation. Increasing pressure from regulators and investors has elevated environmental, social, and governance( ESG) considerations into a defining factor of competitiveness.
For Swift Haulage Berhad( Swift), this shift reflects both a challenge and an opportunity. As one of Malaysia ' s established logistics players and a participant in ESG-focused platforms such as the MAPAN ESG Industry & Academic Summit 2026, the company is positioning itself at the intersection of operational performance and sustainability leadership.
Logistics is no longer limited to moving goods and is increasingly about how those movements contribute to or reduce environmental impact.
This change is driven in part by the growing importance of Scope 3 emissions, which account for the majority of emissions across many corporate value chains. As the key supply chain partners, logistics providers are now expected to play an active role in helping clients meet their sustainability targets.
Group Chief Executive Officer of Swift, Loo Yong Hui, stated: " Our role has expanded. We are no longer just a service provider. We are part of our customers ' sustainability journey."
BUILDING AN INTEGRATED FOUNDATION
Swift ' s ability to respond to these evolving demands is rooted in its growth over the past 15 years.
What began as a container haulage company has evolved into a fully integrated logistics provider offering services spanning container haulage, land transportation, freight forwarding, warehousing and container depot.
This expansion has been guided by a deliberate strategy of building strength in one segment before moving into the next. Over time, this has enabled the company to create a vertically integrated model, supported by its own workshops, vehicle dealerships, and even tyre retreading capabilities.
This resulted in a system in which operational control spans multiple layers of the supply chain.
That control is increasingly important in the context of sustainability. It allows Swift to implement environmental and efficiency measures more effectively, rather than relying on fragmented solutions.
Today, the company serves close to 1,900 customers and operates across the country, including East Malaysia, as well as regional markets such as Thailand and Singapore.
A key milestone in this journey has been the development of large-scale infrastructure, including the Shah Alam International Logistics Hub.
Designed to be one of the largest logistics hubs in Southeast Asia, the facility reflects both the scale of the company ' s ambitions and its commitment to long-term growth.
FROM PHILOSOPHY TO PRACTICE
While ESG has become a defining framework in recent years, sustainability has been embedded in Swift ' s operations from the earliest stages. Investments in newer
