Financial growth through sustainability

FINANCIAL growth through green innovation and sustainable development are not foreign to businesses . The Malaysian government has been working on expanding the country ’ s green economy and creating an equitable financial climate for SMEs .

As part of this endeavour , the government has implemented several essential policies to aid SMEs looking to adopt environmentally sustainable practices and attract international investors .
Furthermore , as part of Budget 2023 , the government launched the SME Digitalisation Grant Scheme and other subsidies , loans , and guarantee facilities to encourage business growth .
But with the severity of climate change , there have been echoes of concern that Malaysia is not moving quickly . Global warming has a significant economic impact . Malaysians have become accustomed to coastal flooding , unaware of how the disaster harms energy generation , transmission and infrastructure . More pressingly , floods pollute water , forcing farmers to use pesticides that harm humans .
Additionally , Malaysia produces greenhouse emissions at an alarming rate . Southeast Asia ’ s most prominent climate change contribution is fossil fuel production . Manufacturing , deforestation , transportation , building electricity , and overconsumption are other significant contributors to climate change .
Green budgeting should enable Malaysian policymakers to shift away from activities and investments that negatively impact the environment and towards more sustainable and climate-positive actions over time , thereby hastening the transition to a community with greater environmental sustainability .
The future is now .
