Malaysia leads forward

IGEM 2026 is expected to generate RM22.5 billion in potential green business leads, reinforcing Malaysia’ s regional leadership in sustainability.

THE International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia 2026( IGEM 2026) is set to further cement Malaysia’ s position as a regional leader in the green economy, with organisers targeting RM22.5 billion in potential business leads, 60,000 visitors from 50 countries, and around 450 exhibition booths.

Announced during its soft launch, IGEM 2026 will take place on Oct 7-9, 2026, under the theme“ Race Towards Net Zero: Action Beyond Boundaries”.
Jointly organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability( NRES) and the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation( MGTC), the theme underscores the urgency of collective climate action and Malaysia’ s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050, while positioning IGEM as a key platform linking policy direction to commercial opportunities in the green economy.
This year’ s edition will feature around 450 exhibition stands and introduce a dedicated sustainable lifestyle segment
IGEM serves as a trade-driven platform for SMEs, linking local businesses with global buyers and supply chain opportunities.
showcasing innovations in food and drink, fashion and cosmetics.
It will also expand into new areas, including sustainable property development and clean mobility solutions, such as electric vehicles and other future transport technologies.
Since its inception, IGEM has attracted more than 700,000 visitors and 4,700 exhibitors, generating over RM86 billion in business leads and cementing its standing as one of Southeast Asia’ s most influential green-economy platforms.
DRIVING NET-ZERO GROWTH
Launching the event, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, said IGEM had evolved beyond an exhibition into a strategic platform that drives meaningful climate action and strengthens Malaysia’ s leadership in green development.
“ IGEM has become Malaysia’ s leading platform for green technology and sustainable development, convening policymakers, industry leaders, investors
MIDA also recorded RM10.3 billion in green investment leads in 2025, underscoring strong investor confidence in Malaysia’ s green agenda.
and innovators to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon, resilient future,” he said at the soft launch.
Kurup added that the 17th edition of IGEM would continue to build momentum for cross-border cooperation, particularly as global energy security and sustainability challenges become increasingly interconnected.
He also noted that geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions have exposed the vulnerabilities of fossil-fueldependent energy systems, underscoring the need for a structured, accelerated transition to energy.
GREEN ECONOMY ACCELERATION
In line with this, Malaysia has strengthened its national climate ambition, targeting a reduction of 15 to 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2035, under frameworks such as the Long-Term Low Emissions Development Strategy( LT-LEDS) and the 13th Malaysia Plan, which guide the country towards its net-zero target by 2050.
To support the national climate and economic agenda and to better integrate carbon markets into broader policy direction, including the upcoming Malaysia Climate Change Bill( RUU Perubahan Iklim Negara), the government has introduced the National Carbon Market Policy( DPKK).
The policy lays the groundwork for compliance and voluntary carbon markets, helping Malaysia build a more structured and investable climate ecosystem.
Kurup said DPKK would play a key role in ensuring Malaysia is ready for a more regulated carbon economy and in strengthening investor confidence in green finance.
In addition to carbon market development, he said the Government continues to strengthen its support ecosystem to accelerate green adoption among businesses, particularly through key incentives such as the Green Investment Tax Allowance( GITA), the Green Technology Financing Scheme( GTFS), and the MyHIJAU Mark and Directory.
Kurup added:“ These initiatives help reduce investment costs, improve access to finance, and enhance market visibility for certified green products and services.”
He also emphasised IGEM’ s role as a trade-driven platform that supports SMEs, enabling them to participate in global green supply chains and to connect with international buyers, financiers and technology providers.
WHERE POLICY MEETS INDUSTRY
Complementing IGEM, the Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit( KLSS 2026) will convene around 400 C-suite executives, senior policymakers and institutional investors to discuss climate governance, sustainable finance and industrial decarbonisation.
Malaysian Investment Development Authority( MIDA) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim said KLSS had strengthened IGEM’ s position as a convergence point for investment, climate ambition and sustainable development.
He noted that MIDA secured RM10.3 billion in potential green technology investment leads through IGEM in 2025, exceeding its target and reflecting strong investor confidence in Malaysia’ s green transition agenda.
“ With KLSS now anchored alongside IGEM, the platform has matured into a convergence point where investment, climate ambition and sustainable urban development intersect,” he said.
Sikh Shamsul added that Malaysia’ s broader policy direction, including the National Energy Transition Roadmap( NETR), which targets 70 per cent renewable energy capacity by 2050, continues to provide long-term clarity for investors.
IGEM 2026 is expected to further strengthen Malaysia’ s role as a regional green-economy hub, bridging policy, finance and innovation and accelerating the country’ s transition towards a resilient, low-carbon future. – @ green
