TENAGA Nasional Berhad ( TNB ) has entered into a strategic partnership with Gamuda Land , the property development arm of Gamuda Berhad , to build two Electron Stations for electric vehicle charging at Gamuda Land ’ s property development projects in Selangor .

The companies inked a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) to develop Malaysia ’ s First Electron Stations at Gamuda Cove in Southern Klang Valley and Gamuda Gardens in Northern Klang Valley for communities in the projects and visitors to the water theme park at Gamuda Cove .
The stations , slated to serve motorists by 2025 , will accelerate the development of the ecosystem and infrastructure for Electric Vehicles ( EV ) in the country , thus supporting the sustainability vision of both companies .
The future electron stations will be powered by rooftop solar panels that will help offset electricity from the grid and support a greener environment .
The MoU was signed by Ir Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan ( TNB Chief Strategy and Ventures Officer ) and Chu Wai Lune ( Gamuda Land Chief Operating Officer ) at Gamuda Cove ’ s Experience Gallery in conjunction with the “ Sustainable Low Carbon City ” event .
These electric charging stations will be compatible with all vehiclemakes ranging from hybrid , plug-in hybrid and fully EVs and include both AC and DC fast chargers . Like conventional petrol stations , the Electron Stations will consist of various services such as food and beverage outlets , convenience stores and more to serve motorists waiting for their vehicles to be charged .
Megat Jalaluddin said the MoU would pave the way for TNB and Gamuda Land to collaborate towards increasing the usage of electric vehicles in Malaysia and achieving Malaysia ’ s net zero emissions aspiration by 2050 . At the same time , the stations will allow both companies to enhance their ongoing efforts to achieve their Environment , Social and Governance ( ESG ) targets while
Malaysia ’ s first Electron Station at the townships of Gamuda Land will serve as a one-stop convenience for all models and vehicle-makes for EV owners . ( artist illustration ) ensuring continued business growth .
“ Supporting electric vehicle proliferation is part of TNB ’ s energy transition pillars . It is the right step forward in realising the aspiration to provide a sustainable master plan featuring climate-responsive design , integrated transport and super low energy building with intelligent features .
“ All of these initiatives will require substantial investments , and no individual entity will be able to shoulder this responsibility alone . Therefore , cooperation like what TNB and Gamuda Land are doing today is very much in line with supporting the government ’ s vision ,” he added .
Chu said : “ Urban transportation contributes approximately 23 per cent of carbon emissions , so naturally , ensuring our developments are equipped with facilities to support sustainable mode of urban transportation is one of our key focuses in our masterplan design in the pursuit of developing smart and sustainable townships .”
Under the MoU , both companies will explore other sustainable energy initiatives under TNB ’ s offering at Gamuda Land ’ s townships .
The landmark Gamuda Green Plan introduced in 2021 aims to further define the group ’ s ESG goals . The quantifiable plan takes a structured and accountable approach to decarbonisation with clear targets – reducing direct and indirect corporate greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 30 per cent in 2025 and by 45 per cent in 2030 .

Coara Marang solar plant launched

COARA Marang Sdn Bhd launched one of Malaysia ’ s largest solar PV ( photovoltaic ) power plants on Oct 26 .
The launch ceremony was jointly officiated by Dr Mamad Puteh ( Terengganu Infrastructure , Public Facilities , Utilities and Green Technology Committee Chairman ), Dato ’ Mohamad Razif Abdul Mubin ( Deputy Secretary General , Energy , Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources ), Heidi Geibel ( Economic Affairs Officer representing Dr Peter Blomeyer , German Ambassador ), Susan Hemming ( Executive Director of Coara Solar Sdn Bhd ) and Anton Milner ( Managing Director of ib vogt GmbH ).
Coara Marang Solar Project is a special-purpose vehicle co-owned by Coara Solar Sdn Bhd and its German partner , ib vogt GmbH , and is the largest project co-developed in the region to date . Coara Marang was one of the winners of the LSS3 competitive bidding scheme organised by the Energy Commission of Malaysia in 2019 to design , build and operate a solar PV power plant .
The plant site covers an area of 245 hectares and is one of the largest solar PV plants in Malaysia to date . The plant will achieve maximum energy production efficiency of up to 116 MWp , with an estimated delivery of 230 GWh of clean energy per year and will help improve environmental sustainability by reducing up to 120,000 tonnes of C02 per annum .
“ We believe our expertise in renewable energy technology will help to maximise the clean energy potential that Malaysia offers together with its abundant natural resources ,” said Hemming . – @ Green
