THE 14th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia ( IGEM 2023 ), the premier exhibition in its field , attracted many delegates to showcase their innovations and ideas . The event , which took place from Oct 4- 6 , 2023 , at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre , was officially inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister , Dato ’ Sri Fadillah Yusof , on behalf of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim . The ceremony was attended by cabinet ministers , ambassadors , international delegates , and other dignitaries .
Organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources , Environment , and Climate Change ( NRECC ), in collaboration with the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation ( MGTC ), IGEM 2023 stood as Southeast Asia ’ s leading trade event for green technologies and eco solutions . With a commendable track record , the event had previously generated RM41 billion in business leads and attracted over 530,000 visitors from more than 112 countries since its inception in 2010 .
The three-day IGEM 2023 event was a starting point for new products , initiatives , ventures , partnerships , and services . It witnessed the signing of over 20 agreements , Memoranda of Understanding ( MoUs ), and product launches , reflecting tremendous support from industry players .

HYDROGEN ECONOMY TECHNOLOGY ROADMAP
Referring to the Prime Minister ’ s speech , Fadillah said transitioning to a net zero world calls for nothing less than a complete transformation of how we produce , consume , and move about .
“ A growing coalition of countries , cities , businesses , and other institutions are pledging to get to net zero emissions . More than 70 countries have set a net zero target .

and delivering the region ’ s net zero and a just energy transition agenda . There are enormous opportunities to steer us to sustainability while ensuring robust economic and social progress . Something that is exemplified in the Malaysia Madani way of life that my government strongly advocates and adopts ,” he added .
During the opening ceremony , Fadillah unveiled the much-awaited Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap to unlock the prospect of harnessing a new energy carrier and the knock-on economic effects it would bring .
IGEM REMAINS A RELEVANT TRADE EVENT
Delivering the welcoming remarks , Minister of Natural Resources , Environment and Climate Change Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said : “ Having had the opportunity to meet with some of the delegates personally , visit the exhibition floor and take part in some of the conference sessions , it is clear to me that IGEM ’ s role as one of ASEAN ’ s leading trade events for green tech and eco products remains as relevant today as it was when its doors first opened in 2010 .”
“ The government ’ s energy transition intent under the National Energy Transition Roadmap augurs well with my Ministry ’ s current effort to decarbonise the power sector through accelerated deployment of RE capacity in our power-installed capacity from 25 per cent to 70 per cent in 2050 ,” he concluded .
The exhibition area was structured around themes like Empowering Cities , Electrifying Mobility , Decarbonising Energy , Accelerating Circularity , and Conserving Biodiversity . Prominent companies such as UOB , Cypark Resources Berhad , Polymateria Limited , Bio Eneco , Lenovo , Canadian Solar , and Cradle Fund showcased their products and services with impressive booths . There were also dedicated pavilions representing Austria and Canada .

Distinguished Malaysian participants included organisations like the Ministry of Health ( MoH ), the Ministry of Science , Technology and Innovation ( MOSTI ) and Sabah , to name a few .
This year ’ s noteworthy highlight of IGEM was the AtoZero ASEAN 2023 Summit , which was held alongside the event . Powered by Gentari , this summit gathered influential figures from various parts of the net zero value chain , including decision-makers and change-makers , to thoroughly explore strategies , policies , and business prospects driving the global net zero transition agenda .
MOU EXCHANGES
IGEM 2023 was a dynamic platform facilitating numerous MoU exchanges between key industry players . These exchanges represented a significant aspect of the event , highlighting the collaborative spirit and commitment to sustainable initiatives within the industry .
One of the exchanges involved Leader Energy Holding Berhad , which , through its wholly-owned subsidiary , Leader EV Solutions Sdn Bhd , formalised an MoU in partnership with BMW Malaysia Sdn Bhd . The MoU is centred on permitting the inclusion of BMW branding at all charging stations within Leader EV ’ s Galaxy Charge network along the North-South Highway in Malaysia .
Additionally , it establishes a collaborative effort to launch promotional campaigns to encourage vehicle charging for brands associated with BMW on Leader EV ’ s Galaxy Charge network .
Leader Energy ’ s Executive Deputy Chairman , Dato ’ Sean H ’ ng , stated : “ We are excited to embark on this journey with BMW Group Malaysia to enhance further the use and charging of electric vehicles through Leader EV ’ s Galaxy Charge network in Malaysia .
With Malaysia ’ s Electric Vehicles ( EV ) market ’ s consistent growth trajectory , we anticipate higher demand for EV charging stations soon . Through this collaboration , we will be well-positioned to capture a larger market share with our EV charging infrastructure .”
Other MoU exchanges during the event included agreements between Leader Energy and Solarvest Holdings Berhad ; Cypark Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd and Trina Solar Energy Development Pte Ltd ; and PMB Aluminium Sdn Bhd , Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania Pte Ltd , and Nandina Remanufacturing Pte Ltd . These prominent collaborations , forged during IGEM 2023 , underscore the event ’ s significance as a platform for such crucial partnerships and initiatives . – @ Green
