Making an impact

Gentari continues to play a crucial role in clean energy solutions
Low Kian Min
BY FATIHAH MANAF

GENTARI , a clean energy solutions company wholly owned by PETRONAS , is dedicated to independently advancing and providing comprehensive sustainable energy solutions . Although it is relatively new in the industry , the company has already made a remarkable impact with its innovative approaches , contributing significantly to global efforts to achieve net zero .

Gentari was pivotal in powering the AtoZero ( Accelerate To Net Zero ) ASEAN 2023 Summit , which took place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre . This event was a crucial gateway to initiating multi-billion-dollar net zero transition projects in the Asian region .
According to Gentari Chief Renewables Officer Low Kian Min , the forums conducted at AtoZero hold immense significance . They serve as a platform for policymakers , industry stakeholders , investors , and financial institutions to engage in open and unrestricted discussions . These exchanges of ideas and thought leadership play a crucial role in propelling the progress of energy transition within Malaysia and throughout the
broader region .
“ We ’ re happy that Gentari is a foundation sponsor for this summit and very pleased to help bring together the various participants in the industry in Kuala Lumpur for a fruitful exchange of ideas .”
THE NEXT THING FOR GENTARI
Low said the next thing for Gentari was it would continue to provide clean energy solutions and want to grow significantly .
“ We have publicly stated that we want 30 to 40 gigawatts of installed renewable generation capacity by 2030 . We want to produce up to 1.2 million tonnes of clean hydrogen annually . In addition , we would like to be a significant player in the charge point industry , where we aim to have more than 10 per cent of the markets we invest in and participate in green mobility solutions , such as having fleets as a service .”
He mentioned that Gentari viewed the government ’ s recent announcement of a 70 per cent renewable energy target by 2050 in a positive light . The government has established some highly ambitious policy objectives for renewable energy , along with encouraging policies that will attract more investment to the country for the energy transition .
These policies are instrumental in stimulating increased investments in Malaysia for renewable energy and hydrogen production . Furthermore , they have introduced timely policy frameworks designed to facilitate investment growth in the broader region , helping Asia and Southeast Asia move towards achieving net zero emissions . – @ Green

Green mobility future looks encouraging

Gentari is committed to shaping Malaysia ’ s green mobility landscape
BY KHIRTINI K KUMARAN
GENTARI DEPUTY Chief Executive Officer and Chief Green Mobility Officer Shah Yang Razalli is optimistic about the progress of the Electric Vehicle ( EV ) industry in Malaysia .
“ Malaysia is at the forefront of the EV industry , and Gentari has witnessed steady growth since entering the market late last year ,” said Shah .
“ The key important areas for Malaysia to focus on now is the charging infrastructure situation , and collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial to address this .”
Shah believes collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial to unlocking further adoption of green mobility in Malaysia over the next few years .
GENTARI ’ S ROLE IN THE EVE MARKET
Gentari plays a vital role in the Malaysia green mobility landscape by functioning as a charge point provider .
“ Our focus is on expanding charging infrastructure and offering fleet-as-a-service solutions , which can unlock greater adoption .
“ This multi-pronged approach accelerates the deployment of green mobility and enhances the utilisation of public charging infrastructure .”
According to Shah , fleet adoption brings several benefits , including faster deployment and support for infrastructure growth , leading to greater public adoption

of green mobility .
Gentari also focuses on improving infrastructure , especially along interstates and highways , as more people adopt green or low-carbon mobility and seek longdistance travel solutions .
GREEN MOBILITY ADOPTION
Shah underscores the importance of green mobility as a critical lever for energy transition . He points out that transportation accounts for significant greenhouse gas emissions .
“ Sustained green mobility adoption is a multi-decade commitment , and government policies and incentives must support this transition .
“ Most importantly , it ’ s essential for these policies to generate socio-economic benefits by fostering domestic EV industries , increasing GDP , foreign direct investment ( FDI ), and creating jobs .”
He emphasised that effective transition requires a whole-of-mission approach and collaboration between the public and private sectors .
“ Gentari embraces the power of partnership , prioritizing collaboration and partnership over competition to achieve an effective and sustained energy transition .
“ The company aims to nurture small and medium enterprises ( SMEs ) in the green mobility sector and establish a regional green value chain built on local strengths and capabilities .”
Shah appreciated platforms like the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia ( IGEM ) 2023 and the AtoZero ( Accelerate to Net Zero ) Summit , where like-minded partners and thought leaders converge .
“ These events provide a valuable opportunity to engage in discussions on how Southeast Asia can transition to green energy in a just , inclusive and costeffective manner .” – @ Green
