THE QR code for accessing an e-waste pick-up service in Selangor will be available at designated grocery stores . After the July launch of the Selangor government ’ s e-waste doorstep pick-up service for households , the State has collaborated with GCH Retail Sdn Bhd ( GCH Retail ) to enhance awareness of the initiative .
Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee Chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin stated that the partnership facilitated improved outreach , as the QR code would be showcased in 16 Giant hypermarkets and supermarkets , along with the local community grocery store TMC You City .
“ E-waste contains toxic materials that can be detrimental to the environment if not disposed of correctly ,” said Jamaliah .
“ The toxins have the potential to infiltrate the soil and c ontaminate water sources , impacting the well-being of both

animals and humans .
“ The State has partnered with Electronic Recycling Through Heroes ( ERTH ), a registered e-waste collection company , to offer doorstep pick-up service and guarantee that e-waste is disposed of in an environmentfriendly manner .

application is showcased at convenient locations , allowing individuals to schedule a pick-up effortlessly .”
She added that the service was complimentary for individuals with five or more items at a pickup location .
The e-waste doorstep pick-up service was an RM500,000 pilot

project initiated by the State in partnership with Maxis Bhd and ERTH , set to continue until the end of this year .
A cash incentive is provided for each item collected .
The State will provide an RM5 reward to individuals who enter “ Selangor ” as a promotion code in the collection application .

THE Klang Royal City Council ( MBDK ) will accomplish Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ) by following strong environmental , social , and governance ( ESG ) principles through smart collaboration and partnerships .
Mayor Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan said national and international pledges are important , but local governments must execute the SDGs .
“ I saw the city council , industry players , and NGOs in Klang practising ESG principles and contributing to sustainable development ,” she said in her keynote address at the inaugural Klang Sustainable Convention 2024 ESG for SDG at the MBDK Convention Centre .
“ Through ESG , we aim to establish a framework that evaluates the impact of industries on the environment and society , ensuring good governance practices are upheld .”
Local stakeholders , developers , and community groups discussed ESG adoption strategies at the event .
Noraini said Klang - home to the nation ’ s primary port , a vast network of supporting businesses ,

and sprawling industrial and residential districts - must set sustainable urban development norms .
Noraini also stressed the importance of constructing “ liveable cities ” where homes , workplaces , and recreation interact to improve well-being .
“ Our stewardship of Earth requires us not to destroy it . Unsustainable development has raised carbon emissions and other environmental issues .”

Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said many Klang efforts demonstrate that effective programmes do not require a large budget .
“ A company could instead reduce energy consumption and implement other ESG practices that will pay off in a few years .”
He also noted that ESG practices may increase operating costs , but the benefits outweigh the expenditure .

Sarawak to draw energy from Napier grass NAPIER grass as a biomass source is promising as it can be harvested 3 times a year .
Sarawak plans to explore this potential as the grass can be used as feedstock for animals and to produce electricity .
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said : “ You convert the grass to biomass . From that biomass , you produce pellets . That becomes a source to produce electricity .”
As producing Napier grass does not cause carbon dioxide emissions , Abang Johari claimed it would not disrupt the environment . – @ green
