Communities ’ involvement is a healthy sign
We can see where their priority lies . Hence , the call for local elections to empower the community must still be on the top of the agenda of the reforms to our political and community system . It was one of the failures of the Pakatan Harapan ’ s election manifesto . Lame excuses were given for not doing it , one of which was from the former Local Government Minister . She initially formed a preliminary committee among
resident and community leaders to pursue the matter , but it was abruptly abandoned for reasons best known to her .
Another issue brewing in September was the plans to redevelop Kelab Darul ( KDE ) in Taman Tun Abdul Razak in Ampang Jaya , Selangor . The residents were concerned that it would pose flooding and pollution risks besides reducing the quality of life of the residents , who are primarily upmarket senior citizens who bought properties

there because of the green and serene environment .
Their concerns were raised during a hearing on the draft of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council ’ s ( MPAJ ) Local Plan 2035 held at its headquarters on Sept 22 , 2022 . Nearly 40 residents attended .
They were concerned about deteriorating flood conditions , including noise , air and waste pollution stemming from a purported massive redevelopment of KDE . The redevelopment plan will include the golf club divided into several development parcels and the construction of 243 bungalow units and link houses and a clubhouse .
A resident noted that several river streams are running across the club , and any development will increase the risk of floods in the area . It is also a water catchment area . The Hulu Kelang area in the last few years has seen several landslides occurring because of indiscriminate development , including flash floods .
KDE is zoned as private land for sports and recreation and remains gazetted in MPAJ ’ s draft local plan . The residents were inclined to oppose plans to alter the status of the land and noted that any change would have to obtain the approval of two-thirds of the local community and club members . MPAJ should mediate between any party wanting to develop the area and the stakeholders to prevent miscommunication .
The meeting on the MPAJ draft local plan was well-attended by members of other residential areas in Ampang Jaya . This is a healthy sign that the communities are actively involved in the future of the Ampang Jaya area , including Bukit Antarabangsa , Ukay Perdana and Hulu Kelang , among others . – @ Forest
The Green Dude feels that the only way to stop the indiscriminate development and redevelopment of any area should involve its communities ’ active participation . It should be an SOP for the local councils to engage them to avoid miscommunication and disaster risks as people speak up .
