Building the future, sustainably
THE message from the International Green Build Conference( IGBC) 2025 was unmistakable: the future of Malaysia’ s cities will be defined not by how fast they grow, but by how sustainably they are built.
Held under the theme“ Adaptation Through Sustainable Innovation,” the fifth edition of IGBC brought together over 800 delegates, two Cabinet Ministers, and leading voices in sustainability. Co-organised by GreenRE and the REHDA Institute, the conference spotlighted how innovation, collaboration, and ESG transformation can accelerate Malaysia’ s low-carbon journey.
Two keynote addresses anchored the discussion. Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government and President of UN-Habitat( 2025 – 2027), and Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, both stressed that sustainability must be embedded into every blueprint and business model, backed by strong public – private partnerships aligned with the National Energy Transition Roadmap( NETR).
“ For decades, the building and construction sector has been a major part of the problem,” said Datuk Seri FD Iskandar, Chairman of GreenRE.“ But that can- and must- change. We must stop being part of the climate problem and start becoming the structural backbone of the solution.”
Sessions explored waste-toenergy technologies, biophilic design, carbon capture materials, predictive facilities management, and green financing models, alongside two panels on adaptation, resilience, and financing the green transition.
A major highlight was the launch of the Academia Participation Sponsorship Programme( APSP), which enabled over 100
Cape EMS, Perak Transit join forces
CAPE EMS Bhd has entered into a strategic partnership with Perak Transit Bhd to drive smart infrastructure and renewable energy projects in Perak, including the development of smart bus stops and an electric vehicle( EV) hub in Ipoh.
The collaboration was formalised through a memorandum of agreement( MOA) signed on Thursday, which paves the way for joint planning and implementation of large-scale projects aimed at modernising transport infrastructure and accelerating the adoption of clean energy across the state.
Under the agreement, Cape EMS will serve as a strategic service provider across sites owned or managed by Perak Transit or its subsidiaries. Its responsibilities will include delivery, installation, engineering works, testing and commissioning, preventive maintenance, and support for regulatory approvals and licensing.
The group stated that the collaboration reflects its commitment to embedding sustainability, innovation and mobility at the core of public infrastructure. It also builds on Cape EMS’ broader growth strategy, which includes delivering renewable energy and students and lecturers from 12 universities to attend, thanks to RM100,000 in industry sponsorships.
“ This collaboration with universities has provided a meaningful platform for the next generation to learn and connect,” said Dato’ Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip, Chairman of REHDA Institute.
The event concluded with a Green Build Tour to Merdeka 118, Gamuda Cove’ s Wetlands Arboretum, Sime Darby Property’ s City of Elmina, and Sunway International School, showcasing sustainable ideas brought to life.
IGBC 2025 reaffirmed that the buildings designed today will determine the climate Malaysians live in tomorrow.

The latest partnership follows Cape EMS’ recent tie-up with Shanghai-based Sermatec Energy Technology Co., Ltd. to assemble and manage battery energy storage systems( BESS) in Malaysia for the ASEAN market. Through its subsidiary, Cape Renewables Sdn Bhd, the company is also localising the monitoring and management of battery and energy systems to improve efficiency and provide technical support.
Lamp pole EV chargers launched
EV Plus Mobility Solutions Sdn Bhd( EV Plus) has partnered with Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah( UMPSA) to introduce Malaysia’ s first lamp pole electric vehicle( EV) charger with full ESG compliance.
The unveiling was held at UMPSA’ s Automotive Engineering Centre in Pekan, where three units are currently installed. UMPSA’ s engineering team developed the chargers in-house, ensuring they are locally built and adaptable to site requirements. Each charger delivers 7kW as standard, with the option to scale up to 22kW.
The system is integrated with the EVlution app, which enables users to reserve a charger up to 15 minutes before arrival. Sessions are priced at a flat rate of RM5, regardless of the energy consumed, with no current time limit or idle fees applied at the UMPSA site.
The collaboration positions UMPSA as a pioneer in linking academic research with industry applications. EV Plus confirmed that the partnership will extend beyond the initial rollout, with plans to engage 100 universities nationwide.- @ green
