tricity Supply Bill 2025;
• Expansion of RE projects from solar, hydro and other green technologies;
• Wider access to green electricity and group solar aggregation programmes;
• Exploration of nuclear energy through the NEPIO framework as a clean and safe source
He stated: " All these efforts make Malaysia not only a leader in green energy in ASEAN, but also the main driver of the carbon-neutral aspiration by 2050."
Malaysia would assume a position on the global stage as Chair of ASEAN, a role that would enable the country to showcase regional leadership in the energy sector.
Under the theme of ' Inclusion and Sustainability ', Malaysia has prioritised the development of the ASEAN Power Grid( APG). Based on the ASEAN Interconnection Masterplan Study III( AIMS III), 18 cross-border interconnection projects have been identified as priorities.
ASEAN is projected to achieve an interconnection capacity of 17,550MW by 2040, with grid networks spanning 2,824 kilometres, and Malaysia plays a significant role in realising this aspiration.
He also emphasised that Malaysia already supplies 50MW of clean electricity to Singapore, with future projects including the Vietnam- Malaysia-Singapore subsea cable interconnection. He added that close cooperation among member States would ensure the region prospers
together.

THE 13TH MALAYSIA PLAN
Fadillah tied these initiatives to the forthcoming 13th Malaysia Plan( 2026 – 2030), themed " Redesigning Development ". Key focus areas include:
• Smart grid and energy storage system( BESS) development;
• Implementation of crossborder market operators under the amended Elec-
CATALYST FOR CHANGE
Fadillah emphasised the significance of the NEA in fostering innovation and raising awareness.
The recognition of NEA winners tonight is crucial in raising awareness and promoting best practices for sustainable energy in this country. Since 2018, NEA winners have demonstrated Malaysia ' s ability to develop viable and competitive renewable energy players at the international level.
He expressed hope that award recipients would keep innovating and competing in the ASEAN Energy Awards( AEA).
He acknowledged the efforts of the NEA Executive and Technical Committees, as well as the evaluation panels and secretariat comprising PETRA, MGTC, the Energy Commission, and SEDA Malaysia.
" I am confident that with the spirit of togetherness, we will continue to shape a sustainable energy future. If we are united and committed, we will surely achieve the targeted goals."

The transition takes shape

A NEW electricity tariff, 10 floating solar projects, cross-border green power trade— Malaysia ' s energy transition is no longer just a theory. It ' s action.
Speaking at the National Energy Awards 2025, Dato ' Sri Fadillah Yusof unveiled a comprehensive roadmap that ' s powering Malaysia toward its carbon-neutral 2050 vision.
Under the banner of the National Energy Transition Roadmap( NETR), six high-impact initiatives are now taking root.
This year, NEA received 173 submissions, with 38 organisations recognised across four categories: Energy Management, Energy Efficient
Building, Renewable Energy, and Special Awards. Notably, eight organisations were honoured with the Green Stewardship Award for prioritising renewable energy and demonstrating leadership in reducing carbon emissions.
From these winners, 25 advanced to represent Malaysia at the ASEAN Energy Awards( AEA) 2025 in October, which will be held alongside the ASEAN Ministers of Energy Meeting.
Their projects have already achieved significant results – saving 128.45 GWh of energy annually, reducing operating costs by RM68.31 million, and lowering carbon emissions by 151,590
tonnes, equivalent to planting more than 31,000 trees each year.
Beyond recognition, PETRA emphasised its commitment to speeding up Malaysia ' s energy transition through key initiatives.
These include the introduction of progressive electricity tariffs in July 2025, the deployment of large-scale and floating solar projects under the Solar ATAP programme, a RM2.5 billion investment in 400MWh of smart grid energy storage, and increased access to green electricity through GET, CRESS, CREAM, and mGATS programmes.
PETRA also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation via cross-border green electricity
trade under the Energy Exchange Malaysia( ENEGEM).
As ASEAN Chair in 2025, Malaysia is guiding the regional agenda by strengthening the ASEAN Power Grid to ensure a resilient energy supply and tackle climate challenges.
These initiatives will be further developed under the 13th Malaysia Plan( 2026 – 2030), which highlights smart grids, renewable expansion, and future nuclear exploration within the NEPIO framework.
PETRA reaffirmed that NEA 2025 demonstrates Malaysia ' s preparedness to compete globally while uniting industry and society toward a sustainable energy future.- @ green
