GreenMan Says …

COP28 DUBAI is just around the corner as I write this short editorial . What will the outcomes be ? During the 2nd week of the meeting , I will be there and contribute to several panel discussions on decarbonisation .

p10
Most solutions are already here , even in so-called hard-to-abate sectors , such as cement . We must talk about existing solutions and scale them up . Finance , governments , and customers need to favour those solutions .
p12
P10-11
Bringing sustainability to building efficiency and climate mitigation
Thermoshield ’ s recognition as a CRP ( Cool Roof Product ) aligns with global trends in energy-efficient roofing } solutions
P12-13
Altering asphalt production
MacRebur ’ s innovation can save two trillion tonnes of carbon emissions globally
P14
Key highlights of Malaysia ’ s COP28 Prospectus
The country shares insights on its RE landscape and potential
Isn ’ t it amazing that a cement plant north of Manila called Big Boss Cement already produces cement at scale at a carbon footprint of 300 kg CO2e per tonne ? It was developed totally without any technology transfer or foreign funds . I strongly suggest that this technology be transferred to the developed countries . What a stellar job by Ir Gilbert Dela Cruz .
In Dubai , there is DesertBoard . It is another incredible story . Turning palm tree waste , such as branches and leaves , into the raw material for the Palm Strand Board without cutting a tree is phenomenal . Avoid landfill emissions and get a highperforming carbon sink board with a net removal gain of about 480 kg per m3 product . I wish many future structures and fit-outs in the UAE after COP will go for such a carbon sink product .
MacRebur has a total potential of 1.7GT of CO2e reduction potentially globally . I hope the Asphalt Road companies will embark on it and scale it up with demand driven by government and private sector procurement – all the technical specification requirements have already been met in various countries .
Thermoshield is also a technology that delivers super-fast decarbonisation through reduced cooling needs in SE Asia or the Middle East . At the same time , it can extend the duration of an asset or even avoid the replacement of roofs , which is highly beneficial for carbon footprint reduction over the lifecycle of an investment . The case study of the Australian bowling hall with a CO2e reduction of 37.67 kg of CO2e per m2 per year is excellent . It shows the vast global carbon mitigation potential by focusing on industrial and residential roofs .
And finally , there is Maleki Gbh flooring , a baby I brought to life . It has been a success story due to superior product performance from technical and ecological innovation . This is the winning formula for making the technically best product with a low-carbon innovation . Then , the market will drive further scaling .
We wish everyone a successful COP28 and aggressive decarbonisation in life and business .
