the animals .
“ He has diligently worked on preserving our State ’ s environment and addressing the issue of food security by modernising traditional agricultural practices .
“ In his forward vision for climate action , he produced a blueprint for conservation for Pahang . On the ground , he is preserving a large peat swamp . He also focuses on protecting our Malayan tiger , a critically endangered species .
“ I ’ m so glad to share that he has persuaded the State to gazette a large area of land to be the first tiger reserve in Southeast Asia ,” shared Tunku Azizah .
NEW GENERATION WITH NEW HOPE
Tengku Hassanal ' s passion reminded Tunku Azizah that her generation needed to do more for the environment . Regrettably , she acknowledged that many adverse impacts on the global climate resulted from the actions of the preceding generation .
“ There is hope in our youth . He tells me that it ’ s the responsibility of the young generation to address the negative impacts of climate change . As he is blessed to be in a position of some influence , he sees it as his responsibility to try to lead the youth of Pahang to address climate change and achieve net zero by 2030 .
“ This young man has been talking about recycling and making Pahang a garden State since his young days . He is walking the talk and has made many angry and unhappy , but he stands firm and is not swayed by them .
“ I am so proud of him and stand by his side for our planet ’ s future . His efforts will encourage the other youth in the rest of Malaysia and , hopefully , the rest of the world to do their part in climate action .
“ So this is my call – let ’ s call on our governments and parents to listen to our youth . I listened to my son , and I am so grateful . My eyes are wide open , and I have learned so much from him and his peers . Perhaps it ’ s true that my generation did not pay attention to climate change , but it is not too late for us .
“ Alhamdulillah , our youth have the energy and vision to make those changes to save our planet . Let us encourage and support them and make their future sustainable , bright , and hopeful .” – @ greenXtra
together to discuss these issues and how we can save our planet ,” said Tunku Azizah , who was then Queen of Malaysia .
INSPIRED BY THE CROWN PRINCE
“ I want to talk about a young man who believes in unity for action and delivery . A man who is passionate about climate action , preservation and conservation . He is my son , the Crown Prince Hassanal of Pahang , who has inspired me .”
Tunku Azizah mentioned that Tengku Hassanal , with the support of the Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Shah , persuaded the State government to commit to being net zero by 2030 .
Al-Sultan Abdullah explained that Pahang would have a net surplus by 2050 , citing the high forest cover and low emissions industries as factors that make 2030 a realistic aspiration .
Tunku Azizah spoke highly of him , saying that her admiration for him extends beyond just being her son ; he is a symbol of the youth of the nation , and she has faith in his ability to realise his dreams .
Highlighting the critical importance of kids in climate action , she also highlighted how he inspired her advocacy .
Tengku Hassanal was present at COP27 , where he addressed different pavilions and spoke with business and government officials , as pointed out by Tunku Azizah . The Singaporean government asked him to speak at their COP27 pavilion about sustainability and youth .
Tengku Hassanal was also invited to participate in a roundtable discussion with government and corporate executives by the Thunderbird School of Business .
At the Malaysian Pavilion , he addressed the topic of peat preservation as well . Plus , he spoke at Project India regarding the Malayan tiger conservation activities he had been involved in .
“ He has been participating since COP26 in Glasgow , both publicly and privately , to learn and gain inspiration . He has been on this path since his early years . When he was much younger , he used to tell me how he wanted to protect his surroundings , the jungle , and
I ’ m so glad to share that he has persuaded the State to gazette a large area of land to be the first tiger reserve in Southeast Asia .”
