KOPITIAM culture has long been embedded in Malaysian society. Families, friends, and colleagues gather in these familiar spaces and share conversations over traditional local dishes that have shaped generations of taste. In recent years, one brand has emerged prominently in this landscape and has steadily become a recognised name among kopitiam regulars. Oriental Kopi was first established in 2020 in a rented shoplot in Johor Jaya, Johor. In just a few short years, it has grown into one of the locals’ favourite kopitiam chains.
Its extensive range of local offerings caters not only to Malaysian palates but also to international visitors seeking an authentic introduction to the country’ s culinary heritage.

Recognition as an Official Strategic Partner of Visit Malaysia 2026 underscores that trajectory. The collaboration signals confidence in Oriental Kopi’ s ability to represent Malaysian cuisine to both domestic diners and international travellers.
Their commitment to promoting Malaysian cuisine has propelled them to a higher standing, and their journey to achieve it is nothing short of inspiring.
A HALAL COMMITMENT
Obtaining JAKIM halal certification has been pivotal for Oriental Kopi, elevating the brand beyond other food and beverage companies in Malaysia.
Oriental Kopi’ s Executive Director Callie Chan Yen Min emphasised:“ We view halal not only as a certificate but as a symbol of trust, transparency, and responsibility for us to make sure that the sourcing of ingredients, the food preparations, and everything else are upholding halal principles.”
Chan elaborated that every ingredient

undergoes rigorous verification, while sourcing, preparation, and storage practices are audited to uphold halal standards. Staff at every level, from procurement teams to frontline servers, are trained to ensure that halal principles are consistently applied across the business.
The certification builds customer confidence while also improving Oriental Kopi’ s operational discipline. Furthermore, the brand also practised centralised purchasing, ensuring only certified ingredients reach the kitchens, further supporting both food safety and quality.
This system demonstrates how halal principles can serve as a benchmark for quality and further enhance the brand’ s credibility among local and international customers.
By integrating halal practices across all facets of its operations, Oriental Kopi transforms religious compliance into a competitive advantage and has cemented its reputation as a reliable, quality-focused brand.
