Aimed at raising awareness to avoid rejection at port of entry

THE MINISTRY of Public Health ( MOPH ) of Qatar has issued a guide for importing halal food . Islamic bodies are authorised to issue halal product and halal slaughtering certificates .

The guide indicates a vital milestone in Qatar ’ s food control . The guide clarifies the halal requirements and verifying the validity , accuracy , and credibility of halal certificates .
The certificates must attest that the meat , meat products or foods containing meat are of animal origin that have been supervised by one of the issuers of halal certificates licensed by Qatar .
The guide , published in Arabic and English , sets forth the general definitions and requirements for halal food . It also includes animal slaughter requirements , halal food and halal slaughter certification forms approved in Qatar , a list of prohibited foods according to Sharia law , and technical regulations and halal-related standards . It also provides application forms for authorising or permitting Islamic bodies to issue halal food or halal slaughtering certificates for exporting food to Qatar .
Halal slaughtering certificates are issued for all types of nonprocessed meat . In contrast , halal certificates are given for any food products containing meat ,
fats , or any ingredients of animal origin , such as gluten and food products carrying a halal label or halal logo . Halal bodies may issue halal slaughtering certificates for processed meat products .
All importers and relevant companies are urged by the Department of Food Safety and Environmental Health , Ministry of Public Health , to work following the guidelines to avoid violations . The ministry has also affirmed the availability of all information and procedures on the MOPH ’ s website .

Minister for Science and Technology , Shibli Faraz , was addressing a commencement ceremony of a three-day COMSTECH training course titled “ How to establish Halal food testing laboratory ?” in Islamabad .
He said his ministry was focusing on strengthening its institution . They also will take part in developing coordination between universities and the market .
The minister emphasised ensuring the quality of halal food items . He said the labs should have ensure imported food compliance to policies and avoid its rejection at the port of entry for noncompliance reasons .
As part of the MOPH ’ s keenness to ensure the highest possible level of food safety and facilitate imported food inspection procedures , the Department of Food Safety and Environmental Health invites all importers , being partners in food safety assurance , to register their food products in the food registration system via the ministry ’ s website . The data collected from the registration will be used later in the new electronic food control system .

Bangsamoro allocates 47m Pesos to renovate halal verification lab

THE BANGSAMORO region ’ s Ministry of Science and Technology ( MoST ) has allotted P47 million to renovate a halal verification laboratory and completed it by
July .
T h e work on the facility in Cotabato City started early this year , said the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao government .
The renovations will pave the way for state-of-the-art technology to enable ethanol analysis , gelatine analysis , and pesticide residue analysis .
“ This project fulfils one of the MoST ’ s mandates to strengthen the development of Halal industry through testing , analysis , and capacity building ,” MoST Minister Aida M . Silongan was quoted .
The region , which houses a majority of the Filipino Muslims , is expected to be a major halal product exporter as it is close to other Muslim-majority countries such as Brunei and Indonesia .
The Department of Trade and Industry said the Philippines and Indonesia were close to sealing an agreement on halal certification to facilitate an expanded trade .
