Global industry shift

THAILAND is accelerating its efforts to become a global leader in the halal industry through the successful hosting of Mega Halal Bangkok 2025 on Jul 16-18 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre( BITEC Bangna).

Held under the theme“ Purity Way of Life”, the event reflects the growing importance of halal as a global standard not only tied to religious observance but also to safety, ethics, and quality.
The three-day exhibition brought together more than 400 local and international companies across key halal sectors, including food and beverages, fashion, wellness, tourism, Islamic finance, and technology. It attracted participants from over 10 countries, offering a comprehensive platform for business matching, trade expansion, and cross-border collaboration.
With a global Muslim population exceeding two billion, the demand for halal-certified goods continues to rise, and Thailand is positioning itself as a vital connector within this expanding market.

The Thai government has played a key role by establishing halal certification bodies, developing industrial zones, and encouraging halal trade through favourable policies.
Beyond product exhibitions, Mega Halal Bangkok 2025 featured highlevel panel discussions and seminars on topics such as halal innovation, global trade potential, sustainable practices, and financial support for SMEs.
Prominent institutions, including the EXIM Bank of Thailand and the Islamic Bank of Thailand, were present to share insights and promote Shariah-compliant financing options for businesses entering the halal market.
A notable highlight was the participation of the Embassy of Pakistan, which hosted a cultural booth showcasing traditional handicrafts, Himalayan pink salt, halal rice, and artisan-made camel skin lamps. This added an international cultural dimension to the event, highlighting the global appeal of halal products.
With its growing halal infrastructure, supportive government backing, and strategic geographical location, Thailand is emerging as a key hub for halal products in the ASEAN region. Mega Halal Bangkok 2025 marks a significant step forward in positioning Thai halal products and services on the global stage.

GREECE is considering a national halal strategy to tap into Muslimmajority markets, according to Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Christos Kellas. He highlighted the strong international appeal of Greece’ s quality agri-food products, which could gain greater access through halal certification.
The ministry also announced a new partnership between Mirtec Cyprus and Saudi Arabia’ s Halal Products Development Company to support this effort. The collaboration aims to develop Greece’ s national halal framework.
With the global halal market exceeding US $ 2.5 trillion and growing steadily, halal certification is now seen as a tool not only for meeting religious standards but also for reaching high-value markets. Key target countries include Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey, offering significant potential for Greece’ s halal-certified exports.

SDB wins Global AI Banking Award

SAUDI Arabia ' s Social Development Bank( SDB) has been awarded the Best AI Transformation Banking Initiative at the Global Brand Awards 2025, held in London. The award, organised by Global Brands Magazine( GBM), recognised SDB’ s success in integrating artificial intelligence( AI) to enhance financial inclusion and empower communities.
This achievement highlights a growing trend among Islamic financial institutions to adopt digital transformation while remaining grounded in Shariah principles. As one of the largest development banks in the region, SDB continues to provide accessible, innovative, and Shariah-compliant financial solutions that serve a wide range of stakeholders.
SDB Chief Executive Officer( CEO) Sultan Al-Hamidi said that their mission was to empower every
segment of society through inclusive financial and non-financial services. He added that being recognised for the bank’ s AI transformation was a proud moment and reflects their ongoing commitment to innovation, operational efficiency, and lasting social impact.
Since its establishment in 1971, the bank has played a key role in Saudi Arabia’ s National Transformation Programme and the Financial Sector Development Programme.
With over US $ 43.2 billion disbursed to more than 10 million beneficiaries, SDB supports individuals, entrepreneurs, freelancers, and micro and small enterprises through sustainable, Islamic finance models.
