Unlocking halal ’ s potential

SELANGOR is one of the few States in Malaysia that recognises the enormous potential of the halal industry as one of the drivers for economic growth . By integrating the halal industry into its broader financial plan , Selangor believes it can further propel the State ’ s economic development .

Other States must follow suit , as the halal industry provides a significant opportunity to diversify their economies , improve competitiveness , and create jobs . The latest Selangor International Halal Convention ( SELHAC ) 2023 is proof of the halal industry ’ s potential , generating RM55.7 million in business transactions .
The federal government ’ s introduction of the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 ( HIMP ) has placed the country ’ s halal economy in a position to lead the industry globally . With the introduction of this master plan and Malaysia ’ s robust halal ecosystem in place , the country has all the ingredients to develop its halal industry fully .
Participating in halal industry development can benefit all States in Malaysia significantly . The halal industry creates numerous economic opportunities , generates employment and contributes to socioeconomic development .
By prioritising the halal industry ’ s development , the States can fully tap into its potential and contribute to the country ’ s overall economic growth . Failing to do so may result in missed opportunities and potentially allow other countries to surpass Malaysia ’ s standing in the global halal market .
Therefore , to help Malaysia maintain its position as the global halal leader , these States and their leaders must put aside differences and work towards developing a sustainable , competitive , thriving halal industry . They must prioritise unlocking their halal potential and see the sector ’ s differences .
