Halal exports to rise this year
HDC predicts RM600 million of investments will flow into the 14 halal industrial parks across the country
ACCORDING to the Halal Development Corporation Bhd ( HDC ), Malaysia ’ s exports of halal products are anticipated to increase by up to 15 per cent this year . This prediction is based on the country ’ s total trade performance in 2018 was approximately RM3 trillion .
According to the chief executive officer , Hairol Ariffein Sahari , Malaysia ’ s halal exports hit RM59 billion in 2022 , a 63 per cent increase over the country ’ s previous record of RM30.3 billion in 2021 .
“ This is supported by a variety of aspects , including the increasing amount of investments into the halal industrial areas , with the total accumulated investment up to December of the previous year amounting to RM16.4 billion ,” said Hairol .
“ We expect more than RM600 million of investments will flow into the 14 halal industrial parks across the country this year .”
Hairol said this during the HDC-Mydin Business Matching Session Programme , connected to its Halal Malaysia Tour event on May 8 . The event was in conjunction with the HDC-Mydin Business Matching Session Programme .

part in the scheme . The names of the companies allowed to sell their products in Mydin hypermarkets were disclosed on May 18 .
According to Hairol , approximately 70 per cent of halal exports went to countries in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region . China had the most significant demand for halal products , followed by the United States , South Korea , Japan , and Indonesia .
He stated that the demand for halal products from the Asia-Pacific countries alone reached RM2.8 trillion this year and that more than half of the RM5 trillion projected can be attained by 2030 .
“ This would be an intriguing fact because many assume that the halal market is more prevalent in the Middle East due to the more significant Muslim population in that region . If this is the case , then this would be a fact that would be of interest .
“ This also proves that halal products have gained a place and are a choice for non-Muslim majority countries due to the added value , cleanliness , and authenticity of Malaysian halal products .”
“ This is a testament to the fact that Malaysian halal products are of the highest quality ,” he said .
In addition , according to Hairol Ariffein , roughly 80 per cent of exported halal products include food and beverage products , ingredients utilised in food production , and non-food products such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics . –
