Kemas dan Karisma
A session titled " Kemas dan Karisma " was delivered by Amin Idris, an image consultant and television host, focusing on how mosque personnel can enhance their professionalism, appearance, and etiquette to improve visitor experiences. The talk emphasised the importance of positive change, adaptability, and the role of personal image in representing both the mosque and Islam as a whole.
Session 2 Objectives and call for change
The third session of the MTRT was delivered by Associate Professor Dr Khairunneezam Mohd Noor from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia( USIM) on the theme " Suara Masjid, Suara Islam ". The talk emphasised the importance of communication as a tool for imams, mosque staff, and management to enhance engagement with both the community and visitors, thereby positioning the mosque as a welcoming and culturally inclusive space.
The role of communication in the mosque
» Stress the need for consistent communication by mosque leaders and personnel. » Recognise the equal importance of verbal and non-verbal communication. » Understand that body language can shape perceptions as much as spoken words. » View communication in Islam as a means to touch hearts with sincerity, respect, and compassion.
Imams as ambassadors of the mosque

» Promote tolerance and represent the mosque to visitors. » Serve as a bridge between cultures and faiths. » Address questions and clarify Islamic teachings for tourists. » Use khutbahs as platforms to promote mosque tourism and mutual understanding. » Welcome guests with smiles and openness, acknowledging diverse questions or preconceptions.
Principles and skills for effective engagement
» Apply the principle " Say it right, say it bright " for clarity, positivity, and empathy. » Use simple language, calm tone, and friendly gestures when engaging visitors. » Equip imams with strong communication skills. » Encourage basic proficiency in a second or third language for better interaction with international tourists.
The two-day MTRT brought together over 90 participants from across Malaysia, including mosque officers and volunteers.

» Introduce the ABC concept: Appearance, Behaviour, Communication.
» Share appearance do ' s and don ' ts for mosque staff.
» Warn against the " 10 image crimes " that can undermine professionalism.
Etiquette and dress code
» Apply the TOP principle: Time, Occasion, Place, when choosing attire.
» Maintain a dignified image for imams while allowing flexibility in certain settings.
» Approve casual wear( e. g., shortsleeved shirts) during community activities.
» Highlight that staff image and conduct shape visitors ' perceptions of the mosque and Islam.
