Hussalmizzar pointed out that actively participating in halal industry activities , events , and initiatives enabled businesses to stay abreast of industry trends , exchange knowledge , and establish partnerships , promoting growth and development .

THE DIRECTION OF MALAYSIAN HALAL STANDARDS

“ When we talk about halal , it ’ s a highly dynamic concept . People usually associate it with the food sector , but we discover many equally essential consumer areas as we progress . For instance , halal tourism , where we focus on developing Muslim-friendly hospital-

ity and services , is one such area with great potential .

“ We have a highly regulated sector , such as the financial sector , and we are determined not to overlook the significance of establishing appropriate standards ,” Hussalmizzar elaborated .

He mentioned that JSM was considering expanding the scope of halal standards to cover more industries . This expansion is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting comprehensive halal ecosystem development and addressing the evolving needs of the halal industry .

“ We have a responsibility to meet the market demand . Losing this opportunity is not something we can afford . We must leverage the trust and strength we have built .”

Hussalmizzar also emphasised JSM ' s strategic plan , which might centre around critical areas such as technology and innovation , sustainability and ethical practices , international collaboration and harmonisation , and consumer empowerment and awareness .

In terms of consumer confidence and trust , he said : “ Halal standards assure Muslim consumers that the products they consume or use meet the requirements of Islamic principles . Adopting these standards builds trust , enhances consumer confidence and encourages repeat purchases .”

In terms of market access , he emphasised that Malaysian halal players could gain access to a vast and growing global halal market . They can tap into the increasing demand for halal products and services , especially

The Department of Standards Malaysia upholds fundamental principles when developing a Malaysian Standard ( MS ).
