Empowering Bumiputera halal businesses

MATRADE has observed a disparity in the acquisition of halal certification between non- Bumiputera and Bumiputera-owned businesses . To address this , MATRADE offers targeted training programmes .
These programmes serve to guide Bumiputera businesses through the halal certification process . MATRADE ’ s training covers areas such as meeting specific halal standards , ensuring food safety , and implementing quality assurance measures .
Besides that , MATRADE provides monetary support to Bumiputera businesses to make halal certification more accessible .
“ We offer financial incentives and support to Bumiputera businesses , including subsidies for certification fees , grants for facility upgrades to meet halal standards and low-interest loans ,” informed MATRADE Chairman Dato Seri Reezal Merican Naina .
In addition to monetary support , MATRADE organises various market access programmes . These programmes include trade missions , participation in international halal expos , and networking events . The rationale is to connect Bumiputera businesses with global buyers and stakeholders in the halal industry .
By facilitating these opportunities , MATRADE helps Bumiputera-owned businesses gain visibility in the international market .
MATRADE also works closely with other government agencies , halal certification bodies , and industry associations . These collaborations seek to streamline the certification process and provide technical assistance .
Through its partnerships , MATRADE intends to foster innovation within the halal industry . It likewise seeks to equip Bumiputera businesses with the resources and expertise needed to compete in the halal market .
MATRADE also runs extensive outreach programmes and promotional campaigns . This is to raise awareness of the benefits of halal certification among Bumiputera businesses .
These efforts are designed to highlight the economic potential of the global Halal market and encourage more Bumiputera businesses to pursue certification as a means of expanding their market reach .
Furthermore , MATRADE offers tailored support for small and medium enterprises ( SMEs ), recognising that most Bumiputera-owned businesses fall within this category .
This support features simplified certification processes , mentorship programmes , and advisory services to help SMEs in their halal certification processes .
Through these initiatives , MATRADE will continue supporting Bumiputera-owned businesses in attaining halal certification . The agency hopes to position more of these businesses for success in the global halal industry .
