Igniting a global movement
• GHaS 2025 unites 500 global delegates and 93 certification bodies.
• The 15th HCBC to spotlight halal tech, safety, certification, and Malaysia ' s RM44 billion halal market.
• Malaysia to host the 14th SMIIC Technical Committee Week for the first time.
ACCORDING to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia( JAKIM), the global halal industry grows stronger when connectivity and innovation operate in tandem.
Guided by this principle, JAKIM is hosting the Global Halal Summit( GHaS) 2025, with the theme: ' Igniting Excellence: Bridging Halal Worldwide.'
Scheduled for Sept 18, 2025, at the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur, GHaS is expected to welcome 500 international delegates. This includes representatives from 93 JAKIM-recognised halal certification bodies, as well as other certification bodies expected to achieve recognition in the future.
" GHaS 2025 serves as a key platform for knowledge-sharing and strengthening strategic cooperation among nations. It also aligns with Malaysia ' s role as this year ' s Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations( ASEAN)," highlighted JAKIM Halal Management Division Director Muhyiddin Aziz @ Saari.
On GHaS ' s role in propelling Malaysia as a global leader in halal development, Muhyiddin emphasised JAKIM ' s over five decades of experience in managing the nation ' s halal certification.
He cited the State of the Global Islamic Economy( SGIE) Report 2023 / 2024 by DinarStandard, which underscores Malaysia ' s global credibility and leadership. Malaysia leads the world in both halal and Islamic finance, as noted in the

COLLABORATION AND MARKET ACCESS
For the 15th Halal Certification Bodies Convention( HCBC), JAKIM will host eight sessions covering key areas: Malaysian Halal Development, halal fatwa, halal tourism, emerging halal issues, halal technology, halal forensics, JAKIM ' s latest certification system, and halal food safety.
These sessions aim to provide stakeholders with insights and actionable solutions. Additionally, GHaS is expected to showcase innovation in the digitalisation of the halal certification ecosystem while strengthening global networks through international dialogues, technical capacity-building, and the promotion of sustainable halal principles.
" This is set to reinforce Malaysia ' s position as a global halal hub and contribute to building a more effective, transparent, and competitive global halal infrastructure."
Foreign halal certification bodies participating in the summit, stated Muhyiddin, will benefit from access to JAKIM ' s halal training capacity programmes and the opportunity to network through knowledge exchange.
" They will also be exposed to the latest certification technologies developed in Malaysia and gain access to Malaysia ' s halal market, which is valued at RM44 billion," he added.
For industry leaders, GHaS offers direct engagement with 93 halal certification bodies from 47 countries. This level of global engagement is made possible through JAKIM ' s collaboration with three key agencies under the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry( MITI) for the 2025 edition.
The agencies involved for this year ' s summit are the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation( MATRADE), the Department of Standards Malaysia( DSM), and Halal Development Corporation Berhad( HDC). The Halal Products Research Institute( HPRI) of Universiti Putra Malaysia( UPM) is also a notable collaborator.
FUTURE DIRECTIONS
" Future editions of the summit will follow an institutional model, a technically integrated ecosystem, and shared global halal standards. These form the foundation of a more inclusive, credible, and competitive halal industry," said Muhyiddin.
Following its re-election to the Board of Directors of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries( SMIIC), Malaysia has made significant contributions to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation( OIC) in its halal standards and accreditation efforts, with JAKIM and DSM leading the way.
Malaysia also holds strategic positions in the Standardisation Management Council( SMC) and the Management of Accreditation Council( MAC). At the same time, JAKIM plays an active role in the Technical Committee and Working Group of SMIIC.
The 14th SMIIC Technical Committee Week, set for Sep 22 to 27, 2025, will be hosted in Malaysia for the first time. JAKIM and DSM will co-organise a capacity-building training at the upcoming conference.
" Participants can expect more than just theoretical discussions. The event will provide them with a platform to build connectivity, support wider adoption of international halal standards, strengthen technical skills, and gain direct access to Malaysia ' s expertise in the halal sector," said Muhyiddin.
Moving forward, JAKIM plans to work more closely with a wide range of stakeholders, focusing on better information exchange, technical upskilling, and strengthening global networks.
This includes participating in global halal exhibitions to boost Malaysia ' s international presence.-
