FOOD vendors and restaurants need to equip their staff with additional knowledge to ensure the cleanliness and safety of their food . Other than permissible for Muslims to consume , halal food must be considered the standard for these two elements - they must be extra clean and safe . The halal food preparation course , organised by Selangor State Government through the Islamic Religious Affairs , Consumer Affairs and Halal Industry Standing Committee , and Yayasan Al- Mughni , aimed to raise awareness and

a sense of responsibility of the public , especially food vendors , regarding halal food preparation .
It sought to guide and educate the people on the importance of halal food and their understanding of halal and haram in Islam . Aside from making Selangor the leading State that prioritises halal food preparation , the course would be a platform where the authority could guide food vendors to apply for and renew their halal certification .
EMPHASISING HALAL AND TOYYIBA
The halal food preparation course ,

carried out in 10 series and on the first Sunday of every month , targeted restaurants , online food vendors , hawkers , canteen operators and caterers . The series was held in chosen State constituencies ( DUN ), including Sungai Kandis , Pandan Indah , Meru , Morib , Pelabuhan Klang , Taman Medan and Sungai Tua . The modules of the course include :
• The understanding of halal , haram and syubhah in food
• The role of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia ( JAKIM ) in the field of food products
• The common mistakes in food preparation

• The cleanliness level of raw ingredients , processes and packaging
• Toyyiba and the good environment
• Why halal in food preparation needs to be known Resolutions and impacts of the halal food preparation course are :
• Exposing the public to the knowledge of halal food preparation and management
• The participants will receive the certificates issued by Malaysia International Halal Academy ( MIHA ) JAKIM
• Increasing the confidence of consumers in Selangor regarding halal food
