PLEASE allow me to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Selangor Halal Industry Standing Committee , led by YB Tuan Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni , Chairman of the State Executive Council ( EXCO ) for Islamic Religious Affairs , Consumer Affairs and Halal Industry Committee , and his team .
Following the first two years of its establishment , the commitment of the Selangor government is evident through a clear goal and strong determination to raise the level of its halal industry to the global stage through the establishment of this Halal Industry Standing Committee .
The halal industry is expected to contribute to 8.1 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product ( GDP ) and generate export earnings amounting to RM56 billion in 2025 , according to the 12th Malaysia Plan ( 12MP ), issued by the Economic Planning Unit ( EPU ) in 2021 .
With the State being located at the most strategic focal point in Malaysia and even in the Southeast Asian region , it is certain that the Selangor government cannot miss the opportunity to gain trade value of this magnitude through the participation of its industry players , in addition to having the highest number of companies that have been certified with Malaysia ’ s halal certificates .
The synergy of the Selangor government in embracing this opportunity is highlighted through its intensive encouragement towards
people ’ s participation and efforts in attracting investments from global industry players . This is the spirit of “ Selangor Maju Bersama ”, the theme of Selangor ’ s holistic development , which is the core mover of the State ’ s economy , including through the halal industry .
Therefore , I hope that this publication of @ Halal Special Edition can be a starting point towards encouraging all efforts and initiatives in achieving that goal .
