into a frenzy when entrepreneur
Vishen Lakhiani uploaded two videos
that vent viral on the enormous
amount of sugar in Malaysia’s
favourite chocolate malt drink.

informed the public
how Milo contained 40 per cent of
sugar.
To this claim, Nestle (Malaysia)
Berhad senior nutritionist Nurul
Iliani Ahmad replied in a statement
recently that Milo in powder form
contains milk, malt, cocoa and sugar.
By following the recommended
preparation of adding five teaspoons
of Milo powder into 200ml of hot
water, Nurul claimed that the serving
only contained six per cent of sugar.
Of this six per cent, she said that
three per cent is natural sugar which
is from milk and malt while three per
cent is added sugar.
Nurul totally baffled everyone
claiming that the 40 per cent sugar
content shown on the label refers to
Milo powder before water is added.
Although Milo has malt extracts to
provide energy and contains several
B vitamins, vitamin D, calcium,
phosphorus, iron and protein, the
question still remains- is Milo safe
for consumption?
Is Milo safe to drink?
The HEALTH spoke to Malaysian
Dietitian Association dietitian Philips
Lee to get the answer.
According to Philips, it does not
matter if a person consumes Milo or
not because at the end of the day it
all drops down to the food intake we
consume daily.
“Drinking Milo does not deter-
mine whether we are living a healthy
life or not.”
“Most of the product that is sold in
Malaysia contains added sugar. If not,
no one would buy it,” he said.
Philips further explained that
what mattered most was the overall
food intake consumed in a day and
how active we are.
“That is why it is crucial to refer
to a dietitian in order to find the right
diet for your body,” he explained.
Philips further stressed that it all
drops down to moderation which is
the key to living healthily.
HENEVER the topic of discus-
sion is on healthy eating, we
restrict our imagination to
salad, veggies and anything that comes
in green.
To many of us, healthy eating is basi-
cally restricting your diet by forgetting
our favourite Malaysian dish but frankly,
who does that?
This is where Rebellious Chickpea
comes in and destroys the stereotypical
thinking of healthy eating.
Speaking to The HEALTH, Rebellious
Chickpea Delivery co-founder Allison
Xavier, shared her concept of healthy
eating but with a little dose of rebellion.
“Rebellious Chickpea is all about suc-
cumbing to your favourite food but still
maintaining a balance diet.”
“Most of us think that healthy eating is
dull and boring. We restrict the concept
of healthy eating to just eating salad
while avoiding meat.
“Frankly, if you go organic, you are
going to burn a hole in your pocket,”
she said.
Pricing their affordable meals at
RM16 each, Rebellious Chickpea offers
healthy foods that are made with fresh
ingredients that is handpicked by Allison
everyday.
They offer various menu from
Monday to Friday each week but with a
little surprise on Wednesday.
“We kick start the first day of every
week with a salad dish but still maintain
that rebellious side hence we combine
them with Malaysian favourite dishes.
It could be Ikan Bilis Tempe Salad this
week and Butternut Salad the upcoming
week.”
“Wednesday has always been a tricky
day for our customers because they are
not informed on what they are ordering.
Regular customers wait with anticipation
while others remain anxious. This is how
we stick to the idea of being rebellious,”
explained Allison.
If you are looking for good food while
ensuring your body remains healthy and
in shape, Rebellious Chickpea is the one
for you.
Just remember to place an order
by 6pm the day before the delivery!
