Eng Hun highlighted how the medical plan offers much more incentive.

IPIDWARE Sdn Bhd began in 2015 at Universiti Putra Malaysia( UPM) by a team of students led by Professor Dr Lai Oi Ming, who were determined to find a solution for dry inflamed skin conditions. Guided by the severe eczema condition of Minho, who is Oi Ming’ s son, the team searched for ways and means to manage the condition using the anti-inflammatory properties of tocotrienol and other antioxidants.

Oi Ming described her son’ s eczema as being rather severe, causing him to constantly scratch and bleed all over his bed sheets. She described those early years as being very stressful for the entire family who had to cope with the auto-immune disease.

“ We brought him from one dermatologist to the other. However, every doctor we visited would say the same thing that there was no cure and dispatched us with steroid cream. There is only so much a steroid cream can do. You can’ t keep using one steroid cream to the other,” said Oi Ming.

Those early years of suffering led her to do intense research from every medical publication she could find on the subject of eczema. She found that the main expression eczema is an inflammatory skin condition which causes the skin to become red, inflamed and easily infected. Armed with this knowledge, she and her team realised that a suitable emolient or cream should contain anti-inflammatory compounds. This was a key factor. This proved to be the pivotal moment when the team realised that to produce a better product, there needed to be a way to unleash the power of red palm oil which contained Tocopherol, Tocotrienols and Carotenoids. The work led to three patents and international awards for the team and a large body of domain knowledge on subject of eczema.

“ In addition, we turned an oil to be water soluble, so that it doesn’ t make the skin feel oily, like the other creams. So it’ s perfect for people who are working.”

“ Although the cream stays on the surface, the bio-actives are made to penetrate the dermis layer in order for it to work faster so it seals and prevents water loss on the surface while reducing inflammation and start the repair underneath,” said Oi Ming.
