Ageing gracefully
Growing old sounds really scary if you’re not prepared for it. An
exclusive with the founder of PrimaNora Medical Centre reveals
that it’s not as terrifying as it sounds if you’re prepared for it

verybody wants to age gracefully,”
Datuk Dr Nor Ashikin Mokhtar,
founder of the PrimaNora Medical
Centre says with a smile on her
face. She takes a sip from her tea
cup. “There was a time where my
health was at a compromise. It essentially was because
of my lifestyle. I wasn’t sleeping very well, grabbed
whatever to fill up instead of looking into what I eat and
I was always busy. It got to a point where my condition
pushed me to be on medications,” the doctor recalls a
turning point in her life.
According to Dr Ashikin, beauty and health are
inseparable. “Aesthetic procedures can only fix the
exterior factors. You age on the inside before you age
on the outside. Depending on your genetic make-up
and your lifestyle, you can accelerate and decelerate
your aging,” she continues. PrimaNora focuses more
on healthcare instead of sick-care. The goal is to look
for the problems rather than fixing them. A holistic
approach to look for the cause of it.
Basically, the goal of the clinic is to predict the
probability of the future disease so the patient can
be proactive in instituting lifestyle modifications and
increased physician surveillance.
A whole new adventure
“I felt betrayed,” Dr Ashikin says with a stern face. “The
drugs weren’t helping. As the matter of fact, they were
doing the opposite; they were causing more problems.
It’s weird when you have to take one drug, but at the
same time you need to take another drug to counter
the first drug’s side effects,” she comments. “This was
the realisation that pushed me into this area. We are

so accustomed to taking pills to stop complications but
that’s not the way I want to do it. The idea is to know
the patient’s body and treat it as a unit.”
Focusing more on healthcare and not sick-care,
the aim of the clinic is to emphasis more on the func-
tion aspect of a person instead of the complications
which leads to the discovery for anti-aging medicines.
According to your genetic make-up, the doctors are
able to identify areas in your body that needs work or
extra attention; then will help you adapt to a lifestyle
or supplements required to stay healthy and beautiful
in your golden days.
Your differences makes you unique
“What’s out in the market is made for the general
public, it might not be as effective but here, the medi-
cines and treatments are tailored for your special needs.
You are different; that makes you special. If you take
the medicines that are meant for me, it might not be
adequate or effective for you,” the doctor comments.
“This is not an immediate change. Because what your
body needs is the correct support. That’s why it’s better
that you begin the treatment as soon as you can. The
earlier we start, the more complications we can avoid
in the later days and the better we can preserve your
beauty,” she says with another smile on her face.
‘Through DNA profiling, we can detect the dysfunc-
tions in the body and that’s when we pick the exact
requirement to support the function of the genes with
certainty. We took out the guess work and really detect
the dysfunction. Then, we pick out exactly what are the
requirements to support the function of the genes. And
because of that, you are more compliant because this is
real and this is measurable.”
Feeling blessed
“My disease may have weaken certain parts of the
body but it doesn’t break my spirit. I realised that I
am special. That is why I am blessed with this differ-
ence. It makes me who I am and because of it, here
I am,” the anti-aging doctor exclaims. “This is where
the realisation gave me more fulfilment where I feel
more like a healer; preparing my patients so that they
have a beautiful, long and prosperous life. I feel like
I’m in a happier place now than I was before,” she signs
off. — The Health
