WHEN SELANGOR was hit by floods on Dec 18 and 19 , last year , Koperasi Profesional Putrajaya Berhad ( Koprojaya ), a cooperative consisting of civil servants from various ministries , agencies and government bodies , rushed to gather relief items for flood victims .
Koprojaya President Arif Adenan shared : “ We immediately started gathering resources and calling up our partners and collaborators to join in with our efforts .
“ We received aid from Mayora Malaysia Sdn Bhd ( Mayora ), manufacturer of Kopiko and Choki Choki brands , as well as from Nadi Bumi Sdn Bhd CEO and former national badminton men ’ s doubles shuttler Datuk Jack Koh .
“ We were able to gather and organise relief items consisting of food , drinks , clothes , toiletries , and cleaning supplies for the flood victims .
“ Initially , we had problems gathering some supplies from the warehouse located in Shah Alam . While the warehouse itself was not affected by the floods , the route was not accessible due to the flooding .”
Fortunately , by Dec 20 , Koprojaya managed to gather and distribute the flood relief items to the victims in several areas , including Sungai Buloh , Jelebu and Dengkil . At Sungai Buloh , Koprojaya provided relief items to Kasih Harmoni Paya Jaras Orphanage , which houses about 300 orphans , and to the residents of Paya Jeras Hilir .
“ The orphanage also houses a six-month-old baby , so we also provided the necessary supplies such as diapers and formula milk .
“ At Paya Jeras Hilir , we gave our contributions through the Imam of the mosque in the locality as he is the representative of the people there . We also provided aid and relief items for Koprojaya members who were affected in Dengkil .”
Koprojaya also joined the Gotong Royong Perdana Keluarga Jelebu programme organised by Deputy Federal Territories Minister and Jelebu MP Datuk Jalaluddin Alias on Dec 25 , 2021 , in efforts to clean the houses and public infrastructure affected by the floods .

“ As there was a problem with the water supply for cleaning purposes , Koprojaya also provided a water pump to supply water from the nearby river ,” shared Arif .
Koprojaya has been actively involved in charity work , donating its Zakat contribution to orphanages annually .

KPJ Healthcare mobilises resources to aid flood victims in Puchong

THE SOFT launch of KPJ Healthcare Berhad ’ s new KPJ Ambulatory Care Centre ( KPJ ACC ) in Bandar Kinrara turned into a flood relief mission for flood victims in Puchong at the Puchong Indah Multipurpose Hall . Following days of heavy rains that resulted in landslides , building destruction and widespread flooding , KPJ Healthcare pooled its resources to assist flood victims . As early as 2 am , a team of volunteers from headquarters and KPJ ACC Kinrara stepped forward to help 63 families and over 500 people who had fled their homes to seek shelter at the Puchong Indah
Multipurpose Hall . The team provided medical care to those in need at the shelter and distributed special aid kits containing basic medical supplies such as saliva test kits , dry food , generic medicines , vitamin C supplements , face masks , and basic toiletries .
A lot of help was needed because there were four shelters in the Puchong area . Ariesza Noor , Chief Corporate Officer of KPJ Healthcare Berhad , and her team were constantly monitoring the situation to mobilise more assets should the need arise .

Koprojaya ’ s involvement in the flood relief efforts is part of the CSR initiatives of Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative .
She added that KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital and KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital provided refreshments and temporary shelters in their lobbies at no cost .
“ Our medical officers were available at our Accident & Emergency Department ( A & E ) if they required medical attention ,” she added .

UKM donates RM700,000 to flood victims
THROUGH ITS flood relief mission , Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia ( UKM ) recently donated RM700,000 to flood victims in Selangor .
The contribution was acquired from a variety of sources , including government agencies , alumni , and third parties .
“ All the proceeds were handed over to the flood victims who were badly affected , including damaged houses and property during the 14-days mission ,” UKM said in a statement .
In addition to financial assistance , more than 2,000 UKM staff and students assisted flood victims at their homes and relief centres .
The group of volunteers also went to other locations affected by the recent floods , including Jelebu and Mantin in Negeri Sembilan ; Temerloh , Pahang ; and Yan , Kedah .
Prof Datuk Mohd Ekhwan Toriman , Vice-Chancellor of UKM , expressed his gratitude for the quick collection of funds for flood victims , as they needed immediate assistance when the situation worsened .
The Minister of Higher Education , Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad , joined the mission and went down to several locations to assist the community and distribute relief supplies .
Also present were several representatives of UKM ’ s top management , such as the Deputy Vice- Chancellor for Alumni and Community ( JIAM ), Prof Datuk Norazah Nordin and the Director of Student Affairs , Assoc Prof Roslee Rajikan .
US embassy aids flood victims
THE US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur expressed its sympathies to the victims of the recent flooding in Malaysia . Through the US Agency for International Development , the US government donated RM420,000 to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society , in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies , to aid relief efforts .
Chargé d ’ Affaires Michael Newbill said : “ We hope these funds will help provide relieve to the people impacted by the recent flooding . My colleagues and I also raised funds to help members of our Embassy community whose homes and families were impacted by the floods .”
Hakim Hamzah , Secretary-General of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society , said : “ These generous funds from the United States will be a big help in our ongoing efforts , as we provide further relief , including food , safe water , medical supplies and hygiene kits to people across the worst affected areas in Malaysia .”
Alka Kapoorsharma , Head of Malaysia Delegation , International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said : “ These floods come as a double blow for the people of Malaysia who have endured the Covid-19 pandemic ”. — The Health
