UTAR researchers highly ranked by Stanford University
THIS YEAR , Stanford University ranked 14 researchers from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman ( UTAR ) in the top two per cent of scientists worldwide .
Stanford University listed the top two per cent of scientists in various scientific fields using Scopus author profiles as of Oct 1 , 2023 .
In a statement , UTAR commended all individuals in the top two percentile of global scientists .
The following people are included on the list :

A statement was released stating that the updated database ( version 6 ) offers “ standardised information on citations , h-index , co-authorship-adjusted hm-index , citations to papers in different authorship positions , and a composite indicator .”
Oncologist Dr Voon makes Malaysia proud
MALAYSIA made history when the first-ever invitation to co-author a First-in-Human trial publication went to Dr Voon Pei Jye , a medical oncologist at Sarawak General Hospital ( SGH ).
The clinical trial ’ s results were delivered as a late-breaking oral presentation at the AACR-NCI- EORTC International Conference 2023 in Boston , US . Dr Voon was listed as a co-author in this prestigious platform due to his noteworthy contribution to the First-in-Human trial .
The said trial , which was started at SGH in June of this year , places SGH and Dr Voon in the company of internationally renowned cancer institutes , such as the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre ( 2nd in the world ) and the Dana- Faber Cancer Institute ( 8th in the world ), both of which are situated in the US .
Additionally , Dr Voon was recognised as the First Recruiter for the Region for this First-in- Human clinical trial , which aims to evaluate the safety and potential anti-tumor effects of an investigational product ; a first-in-class KRASG12C inhibitor in patients with advanced solid tumours with KRASG12C mutations .
He credited the hard work of his Study Coordinators , Erfan and Li Fang , as well as the staff of the SGH Clinical Research Centre ( CRC ) team , who were instrumental to the clinical
Thomson Medical appoints new CEO
SINGAPORE-BASED healthcare group Thomson Medical Group Limited has appointed Lee Suen Ming as its new CEO .
Prior to most recently serving as CEO of the Dr Soliman Fakeeh Hospital in Saudi Arabia , Lee served as CEO of the Mount Alvernia Hospital , Gleneagles Hospital , Parkway East Hospital , and Mount Alvernia Hospital . He will succeed Dr Daniel Lee , effective Nov 1 .
According to Dr Melvin Heng , the Group CEO of the SGX-listed Thomson Medical Group , Lee ’ s appointment comes at a “ pivotal point in a growth story that we kicked-started a year ago .”
The organisation intends to expand regionally . In July , it acquired FV Hospital , a multi-speciality healthcare facility in Vietnam , for US $ 381.4 million . This healthcare agreement has represented the biggest in Southeast Asia

The success of Clinical Research Malaysia ’ s Phase 1 Realisation Project ( P1RP ), which was launched in 2016 as a five-year plan to make sure the nation was prepared for the safe and effective conduct of early phase research , is attested to by the advancements Malaysia has made in the field of early phase clinical research .

Sunway ’ s Jeffrey Cheah bestowed honorary knighthood
SUNWAY GROUP Founder and Chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah has been named an honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire ( KBE ) by His Majesty King Charles III of the UK .
Sunway Group is one of Southeast Asia ’ s leading conglomerates with core interests in healthcare , real estate , property , construction , education and hospitality .
Furthermore , he plays a pivotal role as the founder and trustee of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation , which oversees all entities within Sunway Education Group , emphasising his significant dedication to advancing healthcare and education initiatives .
According to a statement issued by the British High Commission , Cheah was honoured for his services to higher education , health and philanthropy .
The honorary knighthood , denoted by the post-nominal letters KBE , is a highly prestigious and rare distinction for citizens of a non- Commonwealth Realm nation .
“ This honour bestowed on Cheah is only the second in Malaysia in recent times and the first conferred by His Majesty King Charles III on a citizen of Malaysia .
In healthcare , the statement said the partnership with the University of Cambridge saw the Group ’ s flagship Sunway Medical Centre at Sunway City Kuala Lumpur appointed as a Regional Site Partner of Cambridge University Clinical Research Centre , as well as the naming of the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre at the Cambridge University Biomedical Campus , the largest biotech cluster outside the United States .
“ In addition to playing a pivotal role in the UK ’ s response towards Covid-19 , the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre houses more than 300 scientists conducting cutting-edge research to address the latest and emerging public health challenges ,” it said .
Through the realms of business and philanthropy , the British High Commission said Cheah ’ s relentless drive to learn from the best and work with the best led to high-level partnerships between Sunway , the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation and renowned institutions in the UK such as the University of Cambridge , the University of Oxford , Lancaster University and the Royal College of Physicians .
