Soaring medical device market
THE 90th China International Medical Equipment Fair ( CMEF ) is in Shenzhen from Oct 12-15 ,
2024 .
With an expected attendance of over 200,000 visitors from more than 150 countries , the exhibition is poised to be a global showcase of cutting-edge technology . Over 4,000 enterprises will be exhibiting their latest advancements in medical equipment .
China ’ s medical device market has witnessed remarkable growth , reaching a market capitalisation of 1.27 trillion yuan ( US $ 179 billion ) in 2023
For over four decades , CMEF has been a pivotal platform for international exchanges , cross-border trade , and diverse collaborations in the medical industry . The 90th edition will feature 10 exhibition halls filled with the latest products and technologies spanning the entire medical equipment sector , underscoring China ’ s rapid advancements in healthcare technology .
One of the standout innovations

to be introduced at the CMEF is the portable medical devices designed to enhance first aid efficiency . Given the World Economic Forum ’ s projection of a significant rise in deaths due to the climate crisis by 2050 , the demand for efficient first-aid solutions has increased .
Chinese companies have responded with advanced portable devices , such as a 23-kilogram Digital Radiography ( DR ) system with an internal power supply , enabling quick X-ray imaging and diagnosis in emergencies .
The fair will also showcase the

progress in robotics technology within the medical field . In China , an endoscopic surgical robot is already employed in over 20 hospitals and is assisting in more than 300 surgeries .
This robot features a 3D highdefinition vision system , a flexible multi-degree-of-freedom mechanical arm , and an innovative grip design . Having undergone extensive clinical training and trials , it boasts a 100 per cent success rate in over 60 remote surgeries .
The integration of the Internet of Things ( IoT ) in medical services will be another central theme at the
|
upcoming CMEF . Advanced medical imaging IT solutions now connect multiple imaging modalities and medical institutions , significantly improving efficiency and patient experience .
A notable implementation of this technology can be seen in the collaboration between Shenzhen Baoan People ’ s Hospital and Zayu People ’ s Hospital . This solution bridged a 3,000-kilometer gap , allowing remote residents access to top-tier medical consultations without the need for travel .
CMEF also launched the WeTalk Global Stage to boost global business . An after-event organised by the Consulate General of Italy on the Italian medical ecosystem attracted nearly a hundred attendees . The initiative will continue at the 90th CMEF .
The 90th CMEF underscored China ’ s position as a burgeoning hub in the global medical device industry . By focusing on technological and trade exchanges , the fair continues to accelerate the development of the sector , providing a gateway for enterprises looking to enter the Chinese market .
