User-friendly experience
SINCE its launch, Visiokraft Optometrist Founder and Optometrist Quah Ben Joon has found the JNJVI- SIONPRO platform to be highly accessible and user-friendly.
" It can be accessed through a computer, tablet, or even a phone," he explained, noting the convenience it offers to both practitioners and patients.
This ease of access enables seamless integration of technology into everyday practice.
UNDERSTANDING DIGITAL EYE STRAIN
Ben praised the DES Expert Course, describing it as well-structured and informative.
" It broke down the complex topic into manageable parts," he said, enhancing his understanding of the condition.
The certification from this course has not only boosted his confidence but has also provided him with a structured framework to address DES in his patients. " It ' s not just about the certification; it ' s about the validated knowledge behind it.”
The resources available on the JNJVISIONPRO platform have also streamlined operations within Ben ' s practice. He explained that it serves as a " centralised hub " for
OPTICIAN and SEGI University Optometrist Student Alex Beh Kim Soon describes the JNJVISIONPRO platform as exceptionally user-friendly.
" The intuitive navigation menu allows full access to course materials on both mobile and desktop devices," he explained. The platform ' s bookmarking feature is particularly beneficial, enabling users to pause their learning and resume seamlessly, thus fostering flexible study habits.
COMPREHENSIVE LEARN- ING MODULE
The DES Expert Course, a key component of the JNJVISIONPRO, has significantly enhanced Alex ' s understanding of DES.
The course is structured into three comprehensive modules: understanding the causes of digital eyestrain, clinical assessment protocols, and evidence-based management strategies.
Each module incorporates a variety of formats, including training new staff, equipping them with essential information and protocols.
By implementing structured approaches to patient history, particularly related to digital eye strain symptoms, Ben has ensured more precise recommendations for his patients.
QUALITY OF CARE
The impact of the JNJVISIONPRO on patient care is palpable. " It has improved the quality of care that patients receive from us," Ben stated. The knowledge gained through the platform enables him to offer better solutions and recommendations, which in turn enhance patient satisfaction.
Ben underscored the importance of continuing education in fostering patient trust. " Patients appreciate knowing that their optometrist has

invested time in ongoing learning," he remarked.
This commitment to professional development not only builds credibility but also instils confidence in patients regarding the advice they receive, which is informed by the latest evidence and technology.
While Ben commended the platform, he expressed a desire for further enhancements. " Adding more topics, particularly related to the intersection of technology and eye care, would be beneficial," he suggested, indicating a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
Ben encouraged his peers to explore the benefits of the JNJVI- SIONPRO platform. " It ' s a helpful tool to have in the practice," he stated, advocating for its adoption among fellow optometrists.
and treatment outcomes.
PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS
The resources available through the JNJVISIONPRO platform also streamline operations within Alex ' s practice.
He highlighted the platform ' s extensive library, which includes up-to-date evidence-based data, peer-reviewed studies, and clinical guidelines.
" These resources empower me to explain treatment plans clearly to patients, ultimately enhancing their adherence to prescribed strategies.”
One practical application of his learning is the implementation of the 20-20-20 rule, a technique designed to alleviate DES.
" I now display a poster of the 20-20-20 rule prominently in our waiting area and email it as a PDF to my busy patients.” This approach not only informs patients but also engages them in their eye care.
Primary Eye Care Service Guidelines for the Optometry Profession Launched
COLLABORATION COUNTS: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad visits J & J booth during the launch event of the Primary Eye Care Service Guidelines
THE Ministry of Health Malaysia officially launched the Primary Eye Care Service Guidelines for the Optometry Profession on June 17, 2025, marking a significant step towards enhancing eye health services nationwide.
The event brought together key figures in the optometry field, including the Deputy Director- General of Health, Datuk Dr Nor Fariza binti Ngah, and representatives from the Association of Malaysian Optometrists( AMO).
In a compelling address, Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad emphasised the critical role of optometrists in the healthcare system, particularly in addressing the alarming statistics surrounding vision impairment in Malaysia.
" Over 4 million Malaysians suffer from vision problems, costing the country more than 8.5 billion ringgit annually in lost productivity," he stated, highlighting the urgent need for strategic action.
Dr. Dzulkefly noted that the current ratio of optometrists to the population falls short of the World Health Organisation ' s recommendation, with Malaysia at one optometrist for every 16,000 people, rather than the ideal 1:10,000.
This disparity affects the quality and access to eye care services, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children.
The newly introduced guidelines aim to establish a framework for ethical and evidencebased optometric practice, ensuring that qualified professionals are entrusted with clinical responsibilities.
Emphasising collaboration, Dr. Dzulkefly welcomed partnerships with private sector entities, such as Focus Point and Optimax, as well as community initiatives like MySihat. Vision at Johnson & Johnson( Vision, J & J) was among the supporting partners for the event.
He called for a collective effort from government, industry, and academia to elevate the national eye health agenda, stressing that sustainable funding mechanisms are necessary to ensure equitable access to quality eye care for all Malaysians.
The launch of the Primary Eye Care Service Guidelines not only sets a clear direction for the optometry profession but also signifies a commitment to reforming and strengthening the national health system.- The HEALTH
