• True innovation delivers meaningful clinical benefits that improve comfort, vision quality and patients ' everyday lives.
• Scientific research, product safety and positive patient outcomes remain the foundation of clinical confidence.
• A broader range of lens technologies enables more personalised recommendations across different patient groups.

Innovation with purpose

IN eye care, innovation is valuable only when patients genuinely experience the difference.

For Eyeworks Optometry Sdn Bhd Founder and Optometrist Yap Choon Eng, new technologies should not simply represent incremental product improvements; they must solve real clinical challenges and improve patients ' quality of life.
This philosophy shaped his impressions following the launch of ACUVUE ® OASYS MAX 1-DAY Sphere and Multifocal, where he was particularly encouraged by technologies designed to address some of the most common complaints among contact lens wearers.
" I am always excited about learning innovations," he said. " That gives us better products that we can offer to our customers, helping us provide solutions that may improve patients ' quality of life through their vision."
INNOVATION THAT MATTERS
Among the features that impressed Yap most were the introduction of OptiBlue™ Light Filter Technology and improvements made to the multifocal lens category.
He described the incorporation of a blue light filter into the contact lens as a first for the industry, while highlighting that multifocal wearers frequently struggle with dryness due to the age group they belong to.
With Vision at Johnson & Johnson ' s( Vision, J & J) Pupil Optimised Design already established in its multifocal portfolio, Yap believes the addition of TearStable™ Technology and OptiBlue™ Light Filter Technology provides eye care professionals( ECPs) with a stronger solu-

SHARED LEARNING: Eye care professionals took part in the product launch to learn about the latest advances in contact lens technology and discuss how innovation continues to shape better patient experiences tion for this patient group.
BUILDING CONFIDENCE THROUGH SCIENCE
Yap ' s confidence in recommending contact lenses begins with product safety.
For him, a trustworthy lens brand must be supported by sound clinical research, scientific evidence and positive patient experiences.
" I always look at product safety first," he said. " Innovation that actually works, backed by clinical research and science."
Patient feedback also plays an important role.
Positive experiences from wearers reinforce his confidence in recommending the product more widely.
He added that ACUVUE ®' s position as a recognised market leader in the multifocal segment, together with its reputation among consumers, further strengthens confidence in the brand.
INNOVATION WITH MEASURABLE IMPACT
While innovation is essential, Yap believes technological advances must ultimately translate into tangible clinical benefits.
" Innovation itself is important, but it must translate into actual patient benefit," he said. " Innovation just for the sake of improving the features of the product without delivering actual clinical benefits is not really innovation."

- Yap Choon Eng
He believes technologies that improve contrast and extend comfortable wearing time can significantly enhance the daily lives of contact lens users.
" For some patients, improved end-of-day comfort can have a meaningful impact on their daily routines."
Yap believes the new Sphere and Multifocal lenses could benefit a wide range of patients following appropriate assessment and selection.
These include first-time wearers, individuals with active lifestyles, heavy digital device users, patients beginning to develop presbyopia, and existing contact lens users who regularly experience dryness.
By expanding the range of available solutions, ECPs are better positioned to match lenses to each patient ' s individual needs.
PARTNERSHIP BEYOND PRODUCTS
Yap also credits Vision, J & J ' s ongoing educational support for helping ECPs remain current with new developments.
Events bring together ECPs to exchange knowledge, learn about emerging market trends and discuss new technologies that may improve patient care.
He also acknowledged the practical support provided through trial lenses and regular engagement from the company ' s sales representative, which helps ECPs introduce new products with greater confidence.
Looking ahead, Yap hopes to see a toric version of ACUVUE ® OASYS MAX developed to support patients with astigmatism.
He also believes expanding the product portfolio further would allow ECPs to serve an even broader range of patients.
Ultimately, he said, having more clinically relevant options enables ECPs to recommend solutions that best match each individual ' s visual needs, ensuring innovation continues to translate into meaningful improvements in everyday patient care.- The HEALTH
