PERSONAL JOURNEY: Lim Shin Yiing shares her inspiring journey with contact lenses

VISION at Johnson & Johnson( Vision, J & J)( Malaysia) held a World Sight Day( WSD) celebration event on Oct 28, 2025, centred around the theme " Every Story Counts ".

The event included a series of engaging presentations and workshops focused on raising awareness about eye health and the significance of proper contact lens fitting.
Goh Kok How, Business Unit Leader for Vision Care Malaysia Brunei at Vision, J & J, delivered an informative opening speech that set the tone for the day ' s activities.
IMPORTANCE OF VISION
Goh emphasised the significance of contact lens fitting. He recognised the diverse experiences of individuals regarding contact lenses: " For those who have worn contact lenses, I ' m sure there is a reason why many of you do so. Because it helps to improve your daily lives."
He also addressed those who had given up on contact lenses and those who had never tried them, noting that fear often influences their hesitation. Goh ' s aim for

the event was clear: to enable attendees to have a comfortable and successful contact lens fitting experience.
In a lively segment, Goh shared 10 fascinating facts about the eyes, underscoring their complexity and importance. " The pair of eyes is considered the second most complex organ after the brain." He elaborated that the eye contracts faster than any other
muscle in the body, highlighting its remarkable efficiency.
EYE HEALTH
Another intriguing fact he presented was that approximately 80 per cent of the brain ' s processing power is dedicated to interpreting visual information.
" Your brain is like a processing machine; however, 80 per cent of what your brain actually works with is from your vision." This statistic illustrates the vital role that sight plays in our daily lives.
Goh also explained the unique features of the cornea and retina, showing that the cornea gets oxygen directly from the air and that the retina can only detect three colours( red, blue, and green), yet it enables us to perceive over ten million different colours with the help of our brains.
