THE Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future represents a bold commitment to a unified vision for the future of the Southeast Asian region.

Signed on May 26, 2025, this landmark document reflects the collective aspirations of the 10 ASEAN member States to deepen integration and cooperation. By outlining a comprehensive strategy for the next two decades, the declaration emphasises the necessity for resilience, innovation, and a focus on the well-being of the people.
The Kuala Lumpur Declaration is not merely a diplomatic formality; it is the foundational document that formalises the ASEAN Community Vision 2045( ACV 2045). This vision replaces the earlier framework, ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together, which was adopted in 2015.
By embracing this long-term vision, ASEAN not only aims to strengthen its role in the Indo- Pacific but also to foster unity and sustainable development among its members. This strategic approach is crucial for ensuring that Southeast Asia remains a vibrant and prosperous region in the years to come.
CORE COMPONENTS
ASEAN 2045 is structured around several strategic plans, including: 1. ASEAN Political-Security Community Strategic Plan 2. ASEAN Economic Community Strategic Plan( 2026 – 2030) 3. ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Strategic Plan 4. ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan
These documents collectively guide the member states in their efforts to achieve a more integrated and cohesive community.
OBJECTIVES OF ASEAN 2045
The declaration establishes several key objectives aimed at enhancing regional cooperation and governance:
� Implementation Framework: Member states are tasked with implementing the vision through various ASEAN organs and bodies, ensuring that strategies are executed effectively and in a timely manner.
� Institutional Capacity: There is a strong emphasis on enhancing ASEAN ' s institutional capacity and effectiveness, which includes strengthening the ASEAN Secretariat to support the vision ' s goals better.
� Resource Mobilisation: ASEAN aims to mobilise resources from both member states and external sources to facilitate the implementation of its strategic plans.
� Continuous Monitoring: The Secretary-General of ASEAN is responsible for monitoring progress and reporting annually to the ASEAN Summit, ensuring accountability and transparency in the implementation process.
� Adaptability: The declaration allows for mid-term reviews and updates, ensuring that the strategic
plans remain responsive to emerging challenges and opportunities.
