Green Income Tax Exemption ( GITE ), including tax relief offered under the Malaysian Greening Programme / 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign .

Companies under the Petroleum Income Tax Act ( PITA ) 1967 are unfortunately not qualified for such green incentives .

The Malaysian government should consider extending similar financial support to oil & gas companies under the PITA as decarbonising is a costly exercise and yet essential .

This is to futureproof the oil & gas sector when the cross-border carbon tax is imposed by countries ( with more significant climate obligations ) and / or domestic carbon tax implementation .

Energy transition may not always be smoothsailing . The journey can be turbulent and disruptive . But we must not give up amidst the challenges we face . p20
