IGEM 2022 expects to generate business prospects estimated at RM3 billion

THE MALAYSIAN Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation ( MGTC ), an agency of the Ministry of Environment and Water ( KASA ), and Envision Digital , the decarbonisation software leader for net zero , have signed a new partnership agreement to accelerate Malaysia ’ s net zero journeys and promote real-time carbon footprint tracking .

was witnessed by Dato ’ Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang , Secretary-General of KASA . Under the 12th Malaysia Plan , Malaysia has announced ambitious goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions ( GHG ) intensity of Gross Domestic Product ( GDP ) by 45 per cent by 2030 .

It showcases the latest development in green technology and eco-friendly solutions and encourages the regional exchange of knowledge , ideas and innovations .
IGEM 2022 , co-organised by the Ministry of Environment and Water ( KASA ) and the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation ( MGTC ), was held on Oct 12-14 , 2022 , at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre .
Dato ’ Seri Ir . Dr Zaini Ujang , Secretary- General of KASA , officiated the event .
He shared his aspirations : “ We are all here to promote green and environmental sustainability business opportunities , learn sustainable ways to do business , and exchange ideas and insights on green technology with industry experts from various countries .

As part of this collaboration , both parties will jointly develop a low-carbon operating system ( LCOS ) to enable local businesses across Malaysia to monitor and manage their carbon emissions .

Accelerating Malaysia ’ s socio-economic development
The then KASA Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man delivered his speech virtually at IGEM 2022 ’ s opening ceremony . Themed “ Race Towards Net Zero : Fulfilling Sustainable Development Goals ( SDG ) and Environmental , Social , and Corporate Governance ( ESG )”, the 13th edition of the event embraced the country ’ s aspiration to promote sustainability as charted in the 12th Malaysia Plan ( RMK-12 ).
The global event is essential in accelerating Malaysia ’ s socio-economic development . In his speech , Tuan Ibrahim reaffirmed Malaysia ’ s commitment towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ) and its ambitious journey to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 .
He said : “ I believe the rapid development of the green technology sector will spur the country ’ s GDP growth , thus creating high-quality new job opportunities for the people . It will improve the quality of life and environmental sustainability in Malaysia in the long run and will ensure the prosperity of Keluarga Malaysia in future .”
Empowering the development of sustainable cities , electrifying mobility , decarbonising energy , and accelerating circular economy are among the critical focus of this year ’ s IGEM . To achieve the country ’ s goal towards zero GHG emissions , the government , experts , financial institutions , and industry players need to work together to meet the commitments outlined under the SDGs and ESG .
With over 300 booths occupied , the event was expected to receive around RM3 billion in investment prospects . Representatives from 30 countries , including Taiwan , China , the Netherlands , Canada , Korea , Singapore , and Austria , were involved , and there were 15 conference sessions featuring 30 conference speakers and nine conference partners .
The conference during IGEM 2022 enabled visitors to gain fresh insights into technological advances from other countries and more information on various topics ranging from circular economies to low-carbon cities . At the event , they could also view scientific innovations from leading companies to navigate the green economy moving forward . – @ Green
