COP29 Presidency launches initiatives to focus and accelerate climate action
AS part of its “ Action Agenda ” to expedite climate action and augment the regular COP agenda , the COP29 Presidency unveiled its Initiatives recently .
The COP29 President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev wrote to all Parties and non-party stakeholders about the package and how global stakeholders may help the Presidency increase ambition and facilitate action .
The Action Agenda addresses the world ’ s most significant climate issues , highlights ignored priorities and unites a wide range of actors . As the Caucuses host COP for the first time , it showcases Azerbaijan ’ s unique climate change efforts .
It is an ambitious endeavour by the COP29 Presidency to drive action across all climate pillars and spans energy , finance , agriculture , cities , human development , and the climate-peace nexus . The Baku Initiative on Climate Finance , Investment , and Trade ( BICFIT ), Baku Initiative on Human Development for Climate Resilience , and Multisectoral Actions Pathways ( MAP ) for Resilient and Healthy Cities all address intersectoral synergies .
Governments and NGOs will agree on principles and methods to increase ambition in their subsequent collective climate crisis actions in the COP29 pledges and declarations . The COP29 Presidency will provide draft texts to all parties and constituents for evaluation and feedback as part of its transparent and inclusive approach . The COP29 Presidency will ultimately finish and disseminate the texts on its website .
COP29 Presidency Initiatives create platforms , collaborations , and programs for action before , during , and after COP29 . The COP29 Presidency ’ s vision centres on finance , a key enabler of climate action . Hence , the Initiatives focus on execution .
The UN Task Force for COP29 and its member agencies , international organisations and multilateral bodies , national governments , and non-State entities collaborated on the COP29 Action Agenda .
