Head of FGV Integrated Farming Abdul Razak Aya elaborated on the division ’ s mission , which has become increasingly vital as Malaysia seeks to reduce its reliance on imported speciality rice .

Abdul Razak highlighted the division ’ s commitment to becoming a leading producer of premium rice varieties , including fragrant rice .

“ Our mission is to be a leading producer of premium rice varieties by implementing innovative farming techniques that prioritise environmental sustainability , local community development , and consumer satisfaction .”

Previously , Malaysia imported fragrant rice from countries like India , Vietnam , and Thailand due to a lack of large-scale local production . To address this , the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( MAFS ) appointed FGV through its subsidiary company , FGV Integrated Farming Holdings Sdn . Bhd . ( FGV IF ), as an anchor company to spearhead a large-scale paddy farming initiative .

This initiative involves consolidating land from smallholder farmers and employing agritechnology and precision farming , all while adhering to Standard Operating Procedures ( SOPs ).

The goal is to showcase Malaysia ’ s agricultural heritage through high-quality rice products , contributing to food security and improving the economic well-being of local farmers .

CONTROL MEASURES

stringent checks are implemented from seed selection to harvest and packaging .

“ We employ soil testing , water management , and eco-friendly pest control techniques to ensure that every grain of rice meets our high standards .”

The division provides farmers with comprehensive planting SOPs and operates a dedicated processing mill that exclusively handles fragrant rice , ensuring no cross-contamination occurs with other paddy varieties .

This modern facility is designed to maintain the rice ’ s freshness and nutritional value from farm to table .

DIVERSE ARRAY

FGV IF offers an impressive range of rice types tailored to meet various consumer preferences . The flagship product , MRQ 76 fragrant rice , is celebrated for its aroma and soft texture , making it a staple in many Malaysian households .

“ This special variety creates its pandan aroma from the planting stages , with no additives involved ,” Abdul Razak noted .

Additionally , the division

provides premium basmati rice , imported white rice , and other speciality varieties that cater to both local and international markets .
