INDONESIA ' S modest fashion scene continues to gain momentum as Ramadan Runway 2026 returns to Kota Kasablanka, transforming the mall into a vibrant hub of creativity and cultural expression.
The annual showcase highlights how the holy month has evolved into a key period for the fashion industry, particularly for designers specialising in modest wear.
Organised in collaboration with the Indonesian Fashion Designer Association( APPMI) and the mall ' s management, this year ' s edition carries the theme " Blooming Ramadan ".
The concept presents the season as a time of renewal and growth, reflected through floral-inspired stage designs, colourful installations and a warm, festive atmosphere across the venue.
Spanning nearly a month from March 5 to 29, the event features more than 60 designers and around 80 local tenants. Activities are spread across multiple sections of the mall, including the Grand Atrium, Mosaic Walk, and Fashion Atrium.
At its core, Ramadan Runway serves as a platform to support Indonesia ' s creative economy. According to organisers, the event is designed not only to showcase new collections but also to encourage continuous innovation, education, and promotion within the local fashion industry.
STRONG POTENTIAL
Over the years, it has evolved into a key stage for designers to present ideas that merge tradition with contemporary aesthetics.
APPMI Chairman, Poppy Dharsono, emphasises that Indonesia has strong potential to become a global centre for modest fashion.
This is largely driven by the country ' s rich cultural heritage, which provides designers with a diverse range of inspirations. Elements of traditional textiles, patterns, and craftsmanship are often reinterpreted into modern silhouettes, creating collections that resonate both locally and internationally.
Poppy adds, " The combination of Muslim fashion with local wisdom of the Nusantara create a distinctive character that has a selling value on the international market."
This diversity is evident in the wide array of designers participating in this year ' s showcase, including Poppy Dharsono and Musa Widyatmodjo. Their collections, alongside many others, demonstrate how modest fashion continues to evolve beyond basic functionality into a form of artistic and cultural storytelling.
EMERGING TALENT
Beyond runway presentations, the event offers a range of interactive programmes to engage visitors. Workshops on hijab styling, makeup tutorials for festive occasions, and mix-and-match fashion sessions provide practical inspiration for consumers preparing for the upcoming celebrations. Fitness activities also add a lifestyle dimension and reflect broader trends in wellness and self-care.
Competitions and creative initiatives, such as the Evofabric Competition in collaboration with SFA, further enrich the programme, encouraging emerging talent to participate and gain exposure.
These elements highlight the event ' s role as both a commercial platform and a developmental space for the next generation of designers.
Entertainment performances from local musicians and artists add to the festive atmosphere, turning the venue into a lively cultural destination. For visitors, the experience goes beyond shopping, offering a blend of fashion, entertainment, and community engagement.
As the modest fashion market continues to expand globally, events like Ramadan Runway illustrate how Indonesia is positioning itself at the forefront of this movement.
By combining cultural identity with modern design and consumer engagement, the country is strengthening its reputation as a dynamic hub for modest fashion innovation.-
