" Langkawi, along with the rest of Malaysia, offers a safe destination for Muslim tourists, with an abundance of halal dining options from around the world. Muslim travellers will also find many mosques and prayer facilities throughout the island," said Dato ' Haslina Abdul Hamid, CEO of Langkawi Development Authority( LADA).

TOURISM IN LANGKAWI

The primary functions of LADA are to promote, stimulate, facilitate, and drive economic and social development in Langkawi. Its goals include enhancing Langkawi ' s appeal as a premier tourist destination and duty-free zone, while fostering the growth of tourism, infrastructure, and other commercial sectors.

" LADA takes pride in being one of the key federal agencies that have shaped Langkawi into what it is today, working closely with relevant agencies, tourism stakeholders, and the local community.

" As of April 2025, Langkawi received 957,375 tourists. We are still in the recovery period, as we haven ' t yet reached the pre-COVID arrival number of 3.9 million visitors. Last year, in 2024, we recorded 3.2 million visitors."

Haslina shared that her team had just returned from the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai for both B2B and B2C engagements, as well as the Tourism Roadshow in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She mentioned that the feedback was very encouraging, and they expect to host travellers from this market in 2026, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026( VM2026).

TOP WEDDING AND HONEYMOON DESTINATION

Commenting on Langkawi as a wedding and honeymoon destination, Haslina highlighted that authorities in Langkawi have eased all wedding applications on the island, making it one of the most favoured destinations for honeymooners.

She noted that Langkawi attracts domestic tourists and newlywed couples from West Asia, South Asia, and Europe, offering a romantic escape with tranquillity and beautiful white sandy beaches. With exceptional service and a wide range of accommodations, from budget stays to five-star luxury, it provides the perfect setting for unforgettable moments for newlywed couples.

area. In terms of connectivity, Langkawi provides seamless air travel options, including flights via FlyDubai, UAE, Scoot Air, Singapore and IndiGo, India. Thus, Langkawi presents pristine and serene island destinations not only for Muslim travellers but for tourists from all over the world," shared Haslina.

The new tourist attractions in Langkawi include:

1. The Eagle ' s Nest Skywalk: This impressive skywalk is situated 650 metres above sea level, featuring a glass walkway that spans 65 metres in length and extends 38 metres beyond the cliff ' s edge.

2. Langkawi De Windmill: This location offers a photo opportunity amidst brightly coloured windmills set against a backdrop of natural paddy fields.

3. Tuba Geotourism Trail: This trail includes several nature paths within the geopark. Key attractions consist of a hike to Gua Wang Buluh and the 3.5 km Ocean Trail, which runs along the sea at Tanjung Peluru. Other highlights include a hike to Bukit Kecil, among others. Pulau Tuba is also part of the Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative under the Ministry of Finance, with LADA serving as the agency responsible for initiating the infrastructure upgrades, community projects, and programmes. – RnR
