25 @glam.Halal I believe action speaks louder than words. I feel that being on this path and staying consistent work better than just preaching without evidence. It gives me great pleasure to know that I can inspire people to start wearing modestly.” Kazakhstan forbids the hijab in their dress code, even though if one really loves Allah, one wouldn’t think twice of embracing the Islamic lifestyle. “When we were returning to Malaysia in 2014, I asked my husband about his opinion on my consideration. He discouraged the idea of wearing the hijab just for the sake of wearing it. That made me realise that wear- ing the hijab has to have its own purpose. “For the next few weeks, we searched for modest fashion on the social media. The problem is that if you search for modest fashion, most of them are not according to shariah. They are modest in a sense but some may not be suitable for the Muslims.” BEHIND FYNNJAMALRTW “The main inspiration behind FynnJam- alRTW is myself,” Fynn says as she laughs at her self-proclaimed narcissistic view. “The fashion label is not typically shariah clothing. It reflects what I aspire to be – the best version of myself. The spikes are my identity, it’s part of my old self. I’m trying to make a point where modest fashion doesn’t restrict you from expressing yourself. As long as it’s not sinful then it shouldn’t be a problem.” According to Fynn, she struggled with envy for the longest time. “As I grew older, I’ve learnt the concept of qanaah – to accept and be thankful towards what we have and to embrace ourselves for what we are,” she says. “FynnJamalRTW was meant to give more options to shariah-compliant modest fash- ion in Malaysia. Everybody has their own taste. Some people like the floral patterns but some like to spice up their looks with some spikes and studs.” However, FynnJamalRTW is not strictly shari’i. “We focus more on sharia compliant dresses but we are not strict about it. I came from a certain kind of life and I understand the struggle of hijrah. I began with a simple hijab and slowly, yet surely; I started dress- ing up more modestly. So, it’s unfair to assume that people can change their dress- ing overnight. I’m trying my best to not put down other people’s struggle as I am still struggling to improve myself.” BEING A MOTHER According to the self-proclaimed defensive mother, Fynn puts her children first before anything. The loss of her mother has been the pillar of her decision-making in her life. FynnJamalRTW was created as her legacy to Juna and Sakti. Her hope is to create a business that can one day be used to help her children in the event of her untimely death. “I always put myself as a mother before business owner. Everything I do is so that my children can survive when I’m gone. I want a team who can manage the company and if Fynn and her adopted daughter, Sakti Kencana Fitri. I happen to meet my Maker, the team can help my children manage my business by nurturing them the way I would have.” MESSAGE FOR THE REBELS Fynn believes everybody is a good person at heart. The rebels are not as stubborn or angry as they seem. According to Fynn, they struggle with expressing themselves and are often misunderstood by the society. “I was a rebel and still am. That is a part of me. I understand how they feel because deep in my heart, I am still one of them. “I believe action speaks louder than words. I feel that being on this path and staying consistent work better than just preaching without evidence. It gives me great pleasure to know that I can inspire people to start wearing modestly. “Therefore, I want FynnJamalRTW to be the gateway for those who are looking to wear modestly. If you want to start and you don’t know where or how, come to our outlet and we’ll be more than happy to help you out with your needs,” she says with a hopeful heart. Fynn started off not wearing any hijab in her younger days. Since she married her husband, she gradually comes closer to herself and God.
