A showcase of excellence

• Industry leaders from Duopharma, Dutch Lady, and Hong Leong Islamic Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called Halal“ an international
symbol of trust,” urging ethical and sustainable business practices.
THE Malaysia International Halal Showcase once again became the meeting point where belief met business, reminding the world that Halal is not just about what is permissible, but what is principled.
The four-day showcase( 17 to 20 Sept), themed“ Pinnacle of Halal Excellence,” highlighted Malaysia’ s ability to combine trade ambition with ethical conviction.
Organised by MATRADE, the showcase served as both a marketplace and a policy platform, underscoring Malaysia’ s commitment to strengthening its Halal ecosystem in line with national development goals.
Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who officiated the event, described Halal as“ more than a commercial label— it is an international symbol of trust.” He called on the industry to treat the Halalan- Toyyiban principles as the foundation for ethical, sustainable, and transparent business practices.
“ Halal is not merely about compliance; it reflects integrity in production, fairness in trade and compassion in consumption,” he said.
BEYOND LABELS
Anwar reiterated the government’ s ambition to elevate Malaysia’ s Halal exports to RM80 billion by 2030, guided by the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030( HIMP 2030) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030( NIMP 2030).
Both frameworks, he said, are designed to position Malaysia as a centre for quality, innovation and value creation in the global Halal economy.
He also pointed to digitalisation as a crucial enabler. The Prime Minister announced that the MADANI Digital Trade

( MDT) platform— an AI-driven businessmatching system— would be used at MIHAS to connect Malaysian exporters with verified buyers worldwide.
This initiative, he noted, would especially benefit micro, small and medium enterprises( MSMEs) by easing access to international markets and simplifying cross-border trade.
The showcase’ s commercial core remained strong through its flagship International Sourcing Programme( INSP). This year’ s edition saw over 4,000 business meetings facilitated between 600 Malaysian exporters and 300 international buyers from key markets such as China, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.
Preliminary results showed that MIHAS was on track to achieve its RM4.5 billion sales target, with the INSP’ s virtual platform extending engagement until 5 Nov 2025.
MATRADE Chairman Dato’ Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the robust response to this year’ s INSP reflected the global confidence in Malaysia’ s Halal offerings.“ MIHAS has once again proven
to be a vital bridge connecting Malaysian exporters with the world.
“ The strong participation from international buyers underscores Malaysia’ s credibility as a trusted source for highquality, Halal-certified products and services,” he said.
Beyond trade, MIHAS continued to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange. The Knowledge Hub featured 23 sessions and 76 international speakers, focusing on critical issues such as global market trends, supply chain traceability, e-commerce and sustainable growth strategies.
Organisers said the sessions were designed to give businesses, particularly smaller exporters, the insights and data they need to scale up and remain competitive.
BUILDING GLOBAL CONFIDENCE
MIHAS also reflected the diversity of the Halal sector, featuring 14 clusters covering Halal food, pharmaceuticals, Islamic finance, modest fashion, green technology and Muslim-friendly tourism.
MATRADE and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry( MITI) emphasised that MIHAS is not just about exhibition space, but about fostering sustainable business partnerships that align with Malaysia’ s MADANI values.
MITI Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the event demonstrated how Halal could drive“ responsible innovation and inclusive growth.”
PATHWAYS FOR GROWTH
Expanding beyond Malaysia’ s borders, MIHAS will make its international debut in Shanghai this Nov, coinciding with the China International Import Expo, followed by plans to enter the European market in 2026. These efforts aim to provide Malaysian exporters with direct access to high-value markets and new consumer bases.
Since its inception in 2004, MIHAS has facilitated close to RM30 billion in trade, and with each edition, it continues to adapt to global shifts while maintaining its moral and ethical core. MIHAS 2025, in particular, highlighted a broader vision— where integrity, innovation and impact converge to shape the future of the Halal economy.
If this year’ s showcase is any indication, MIHAS remains on course to ensure this commitment is both principled and profitable.-
